Summer
Summer is in full swing now, with clear skies, warm nights, and ample sunshine! As such, the deserts begin to grow dry, the shores remain a blissful escape, the north is spared with cooling winds, and humidity continues to rise in the jungle. Rain and storms are long forgotten troubles by now, which is both a virtue and a vice during the heat of the season.

This is the start of how it all ever ends. They used to shout my name, now they whisper it.

not only did she hunt for herbs (a necessity with spring fresh come) but she also wanted to do her bit to stock the new caches on the cay. they had a healthy number to support (including a new mother and cubs) and calypso had every intention of doing her bit to ensure they thrived.
en route she stopped to press herself in to the muck and growing grasses, dirtying her coat more than usual but effectively masking her scent. the grasses, too, would help -- though she smelled more often of herbs and salt-water than anything. satisfied she pressed on, nostrils flared as she paid attention to her surroundings and sought a meal that she might bring home.
she was not the most practiced hunter but had spent enough months alone (and providing for herself) that she was not the worst, either. when she arrived in the gardens (budding and beautiful with herbs ripe for the picking) she caught the scent of something good.
it would seem she was not the only one, as she stalked nearer she spotted an unfamiliar lioness. calypso sought to catch her eye with a slight tip of her head that clearly asked -- may i join you? All of her recent practice would be helpful, now, as she slung low to the ground and moved with careful steps -- it would do no good to give away their location now.

Humid drizzle lingered on the ends of her long, matted fur, making the grease sparkle like a miniature rainbow. And on her black whiskers dew formed like graceful droplets, as though she were a beautiful creature (anyone other than herself) - but in her eyes was no graceful sparkle. It was a simple, shallow expression, beading with hunger and demanding its satiation. She also smelled the wounded prey. Maddening and strong the scent was, rising from the new spring earth. She clumsily moved in step with the other two females. Her head bobbed between low and hunting and (forgetting what she was supposed to be doing) conversant level. In a stage whisper (she had never grasped that whispering required a low volume): "Da Rainforest need da food! Like a lot!"

Parvati was relieved that spring had come. They knew it would. Never had any doubts, except the emotional ones. Time to gather herbs again and learn what the young growth looked like. Parvati targeted the teeming Gardens as an obvious first choice. Their stomach interrupted them, grumbling, and a light frown canvassed their face. They preferred to be more prepared. They didn't like to be interrupted by physical feelings of any sort. Nor did they wish to seek company... but the scent of blood, and the sign of lions in pursuit, seemed too efficient an opportunity to pass up despite their shyness.
They hurried, and just as they stopped looking for herbs they stumbled into a rivulet of them. The low-lying ditch seemed like it would flood with the next rain, and no rooted plants could be found, but there was very interesting moss and wide flat mushrooms springing up in a line. Interesting. Very interesting. Also... hungry. Parvati whined and forced their eyes away from the plants. No. They would still be here later. Had to eat first.
Fangs grit and they consciously loosened their face into an expression of neutral ease. (Hopefully.) The trail of broken, bloodied grass first caught their eye, and when it mingled with lion tracks and tufts of lion fur Parvati hurried to catch up. They counted two lions and were disappointed to find three... but nonetheless, they had found the group, and tried to swing in probably getting a little too close to someone. Their paws, despite their small size, always seemed too large when other sentient beings were afoot.

she did not yet know her way around these lands. but with the blossom of new life, she knew one thing for certain: food. she had been living on scraps for months and her body showed the wear of such a depleted food source. her hips were sunken and shallow, her shoulders jut out at sharp angles, and her face lacked the glow of a healthy lioness. nevertheless, she was still strong.
that was why she knew, as she caught the scent of blood, that she could not do it alone. she was thankful then when she saw the others. dropping low to her belly, she nodded to the others before veering off a little ways. hopefully, if she did not startle the prey unknowingly, she could be there to cut off one route of escape.

adult, Level 3 Ranger (+1 to hunt rolls, -1 to dodge roll for prey, counts as two lions in any hunt)
Same shit, different setting, out hunting again is the Bezra.
Somewhere along the way, southeast of the Bluffs, she'd caught a whiff that couldn't be ignored. Spring brought with it immediate bounty, and where medics like Echo surely relish the new growth of vegetation, hunters like Ursula know that it's about time the herds begin to move about with their newest attempt at parenthood. And by attempt it can be safely assumed that she is the type to spoil their efforts whenever the chance is presented.
As of now, though, she cannot decipher what exactly she's tailing. The heavy rainfall of late has long since saturated the soil, dampening scents, and it's luck alone that has her catching the dwindling impression of blood on the dripping foliage. So incredibly faint at first that she nearly misses it- and, perhaps, if she didn't rely on her sense of smell so much she just might have. Instead it pulls her attention into the brush, upward as the elevation changed, and before long she finds others on the same trail.
Curious, to her, that every group hunt like this produces a new assortment of unfamiliar faces. Maintaining some amount of distance, Ursula slips into a -well-practiced crouch, eyes now flickering between the other lionesses. Nose twitching, she works to remain on the now-heavier track from their quarry, filtering into the unit that they all have become to down it. On her tongue she too tastes salt, now, and hot sand and.. something more earthy. Being surrounded by pride scent doesn't discourage her. Tail lashing with excitement, Ursula is in her element, quickly becoming tunnel-visioned as their target comes into view.

It is the sour stench of buffalo poo that marks her arrival; promises of fermented grass and soiled pride, at least for those who might not care to wear it. Charax is content to sport such an aroma, having had sullied her toes and dampened her nape with the earthy perfume. She arrives with an understanding of the situation, lions of various scents, both familiar and not, gathering against the downwards breeze. A hunt was nigh, and there were few bellies hungrier than that of a lonesome rogue. The chocolate woman comes to loiter on the outskirts of the group, unfazed by light drizzle, choosing to maintain her usual air of distrust as she awaits a signal to hunt.

The fields are not too far from the jungle. Easily he skirts around the monkey-housing trees, not wanting them to worry or call his departure. He wouldn't be gone long, just long enough to grab a bite of food. Paws divert and dodge, trailing this way and that before doubling back. This habit is well-worn by now, more muscle memory than concious thought. The path he made would make little sense to anyone following, but his aim was true.
Storm clouds blanketed the sky and so he hurries, drawn towards a quiet commotion. A small gathering of lions, pulled together for a similar purpose. Ears tick forward as he seeks to join them -- settling in quietly. Some were familiar in passing but most were strangers, but they looked capable enough. Attention turns then as he focuses up, eyes keen -- ready for the hunt to begin.

Level 2 Ranger: +1 dice to hunt rolls
The soggy ground squished beneath the yearling’s paws as he made his way through the drenched garden, led by his nose and the metallic scent that tickled it. Hiccup, too, had recognized the zing of blood in the air — but that was it. The tracks he’d found were impossible to identify. Too many paws had passed over them. The scent, too, was hard to pin down. Mostly, he could only smell blood. But that was promising, so he followed it.
Hiccup had expected a crowd — he’d seen the tracks in the mud and smelled them in the humid air — but was nevertheless surprised by the size when he finally found it. He passed his mercury gaze over the hunters, though only one was familiar, and only vaguely: the speckled lioness from Wolfbron, @Ursula. He realized he had no idea what her name was, but she was the only one he recognized, so he moved to team up with her.
Mimicking her method, the yearling crouched as he neared the hunting party, letting the grass disguise him. The rimmed ears on his head folded back into his mane while he peered through the grass, inhaling the scent that had led him there. Hopefully, it would take them to a meal.

Kallan attempted to follow after Hiccup, curious to see how long it would take for their pridemate to realize he was being tailed. It had started as a quest to find what was causing the tantalizing scent of blood to waft through the air when she had seen his familiar red pelt in the distance and realized they were following after the same prize. More lions became apparent within the garden flats, an array of pride scents mingling in the air and preventing them from really pinpointing anyone's specific identity.

Hey, Hiccup, they whispered as they attempted to come up on his other side, glancing at the boy quickly before focusing on the task at their paws. Adrenaline ran through her, foreshadowing the excitement of the hunt.
