It had been what felt like ages, (see: months) since he had seen her. He felt consumed with the need to be beside her, she had found him when he was vulnerable and managed to calm him when not even his own family could do that. The brooding plum teenager moved towards the hidden grotto of the mountains, he had built an altar here. to her god, in the hopes if he pleased them enough then they would grant him the ability to come fight the god who took Cordi. His fur bristled from the cold air but he ignored it, he was not destined for a mane but that did not matter to Elysian. Mane or no mane, he would swallow the god who took away a angel. With a huff he sat down before the altar he had made. It was a crude little hollow in a tree base, decorated with small skulls  pebbles and feathers. His latest addition was a rabbit pelt, and he swallowed hard to hold back the tears that threatened to roll down his dark cheeks.

“I had wondered.” From behind Elysian, Yasmin’s words echoed quietly in the cavernous space, over the background noise of water dripping and the humming air. She stood staring, smiling, unable to wholly contain the giddy feeling that rode through her at having her path cross with his again. Itri had guided them to each other once; she had trusted that He would bring them back together again.

It was only a shame it had taken so long. He was changed. The months apart had aged him, turned him from the gangly youth she remembered into something lankier, something sleeker, something closer to a lion than a cub. She, too, was different—taller, trimmer, though with the same fold of mane that covered half her face—and Mina wondered briefly what he must think to see her now, if he was equally as delighted with their reunion.

Gesturing with a nod toward the shrine, she continued. “When I first saw this. I wondered if it was your handiwork. I am not disappointed.” Yasmin walked closer, coming to stand beside Ely. She had to tear her gaze from him to look at the shrine properly; it didn’t capture her attention to nearly the same degree. “They are not disappointed either.”

Having not heard her approach, her words had startled him into a standing position. But before he turned to face her he lifted a forearm to wipe his face a bit. If she asked he would lie and say it was dirty. Though he had been startled, he also felt a swooping sensation when she appeared. It had been too long, they had grown in height and bulk. Though where she grew a mane, his neck and head remained bare of such a gift. It did not bother him, papa did not have one and it did not make it any harder for him to live.

When she tore her gaze away from him his nostrils flared a bit catching her scent, finding it calmed him. As did her presence. "I was hoping you would come when I was here," he admitted, his voice had deepened quite a few degrees since they last spoke. Elysian was not nearly as shy as he had been with her before, he openly looked her over next to him. Letting his good eye take in her growing appearance and he found himself smiling with admiration.

"They have given you a blessing of growing beauty," he said to her his voice honest, and warm. Something he found hard to be either of these days, but not with her. With her it came easier to him. A smile still on his maw he turned his gaze back to the shrine. "I hope she sees these... and remembers my promise," he said the smile faltering a bit. Yes, he was still hung up on the impossible dream of conquering what had killed -- no, stolen Cordi from them. The reality had not quite sunk in yet.

She felt his eyes on her, studying her, and it took a considerable amount of willpower not to go right back to staring. There was something special about Elysian. Yasmin assumed it had everything to do with the both of them being wards of Itri, of that strange bond tethering them together in a way no one else could understand, could compare to. It was odd, but she had gone too long without any sort of connection at all. She welcomed this.

As she did the compliment. The young lioness sat straighter, prouder, as she let a smile broadly overtake her muzzle, the hints of teeth peeking below. She had never fancied herself beautiful before, but she certainly liked the feeling it gave her. As if she carried a secret, unknown power within herself. “And you, a gilded tongue,” she teased with a sidelong glance, barely withholding a chuckle.

But, everpresent, the shadows of the past still lingered in her friend, grief clearly showing its vice-like hold on Ely’s heart. Mina’s smile faltered too, and she was saddened for him. “She does,” she promised—then, thinking of her own family, added, “they do.” But she didn’t want to get caught up in those darkened thoughts again, didn’t want to tarnish their reunion by returning to those broken places they had been when they originally met.

The Behati to his Zenebe. Right. She tried to change the subject. “You look well,” she remarked, nudging her shoulder against his in playful distraction. “Tell me. What have you been up to? Besides this.” Yasmin gestured once at the shrine.
