Caillen was happy to know her father now had his own pride, a pride to call his own. Since her arrival to Ecrosia Mire, he had always been there. He had always cared for her, despite her being weak. He always protected her, fed her, and taught her a lot of things. Now as an adult, she wanted to return him the favor, to be now her who helps him, her who works hard for his dreams. She wanted to be there for him as much as he had been for her when she was but a cub. The place was chilly, even more with Winter nearby. Light steps carried the small lioness into the tundra, while she sniffed. Looking for anything to hunt, now that she could hunt for pride once more, she wanted to explore other lands to try hunting something new. The day was just starting she had time on her paws. The wind was loud enough to mask her step noises. Hopefully this will help her be quiet. @Caltariel |

A soft smile unfurled upon Caltáriel's lips as she promenaded through the snow, the soft crunch of fresh powder underneath the only noise. Her flank rose and fell with every warm breath, a white suspire expelling from her lips the tell-tale sign of winter hastily approaching. The autumn struck harder, faster here; the bitter chill of autumnal nights froze whatever snowfall occurred during the day, and cemented tracks in the snow of herds migrating southward. The change in the weather would have Illyria's hunters venturing further and further into the Amaryllisian heartlands.
Not that she minded. The warmer, the better. Caltáriel were built for the foothills, for the endless rolling plains.
It were not a herd of elk she had happened upon during her tracking. Instead, it were a lone lioness; younger, smaller. A curious brow lifted as she began to close the distance between them, a soft call announcing her arrival long before she'd ventured too close to @Caillen. Looks like the herds are moving, huh?
she asked, a friendly smile unfurling upon her lips, We'll need to start hunting elsewhere soon.

Determination filled her eyes as she scouted for scents, while her slender legs carried her near a lake, one of cristal blue waters. The wind collided with her fluffy cheeks, and even though it felt chilly on her skin, she knew this could help her archive what she was aiming to do. The wind could carry scents with it, mask scents if used right. As she considered this on her mind. There in the quiet morning, she soon noticed she wants the only one on these frigid lands. A pale woman had similar ideas. A soft smile formed on her lips as she listened to what she had to say. Happy that she had some company, and possibly new friends were always a joy to her. "Yes they are!" She agreed, and with winter around the corner, she didn't deny the herds would want warmer places. "Winter is coming and I can see them looking for southern regions." She added. It was always good to learn others' points of view. Even more from someone much older and wiser than she was. "I want to surprise my dad with a meal, that's why I am searching for something out here." She wasn't shy to talk her mind even with strangers. "What about you? What are you up to up here?" Always love to know. +20 Discuss hunting needs with another 1/2 +10 Study herd migration habits 1/2 +10 Learn something from another about your trade @Caltáriel |
@Caillen seemed much more versed in the migration habits of prey here than Caltáriel did. The valley she had come from before had a far less drastic shift of biomes in a smaller amount of space, and thus, the herds there had always stayed relatively in the same place. They transitioned between their feeding and breeding grounds with the change of seasons, but the behavior had been learned through the generations of Greyfloods that lived there, and the drive of their migration habits had been different than of those here. Here, they had to leave; it grew far too cold in the winter for their young, and in the south far too dry to sustain them.
A surprise? What a great idea!
she purred, her lips curving into a broad grin. She refocused her energy on tracking the herds, knowing well their tracks were fresh enough that they'd not left the territory entirely yet. Though the dark clouds swelled overhead, a promise of the season's first snowstorm prophesized in the daunting darkness of the clouds. I was hoping to start tracking their migration,
she admitted with a casual roll of her shoulders. However, the idea of a hunting partner felt almost delightful, when Caltáriel wanted nothing more than to stretch her legs and run. With them moving farther away from the Summit, we'll need to hunt larger prey...or hunt more often.
The former seemed more ideal, and something she would propose to Illyria's Queens and Lead Hunter. If they could organize larger hunting parties to bring down multiple beasts at once, they could stock up for weeks on end, especially with the winter being good for preserving prey.

The woman was interesting to speak to, nice-looking, and kind. Of course, no one should simply take what was on the surface to determine the trustworthiness of a lion, but Caillen was still too inexperienced to know that, to even know the basics of survival. "Ohh sounds fun! I haven't had many chances of learning to track! How would you do it?" She didn't mind asking a stranger, she had it hard to stop her thoughts when she wanted to set them free. Is your pride too far? I also wanted to hunt something to bring new tastes to the Oasis! But I don't know what could work. Maybe something up here could. Maybe the won't go too far south! It mostly depends on how severe this winter could be, if it isn't you may hunt them down a bit longer. It was just an idea that came to her mind. +20 Discuss hunting needs with another 2/2 +10 Study herd migration habits 2/2 +10 Learn something from another about your trade 1/2 @Caltáriel |
@Caillen seemed as eager to learn as she was to teach, and Caltáriel was never shy from learning even from those younger than her. It had been the newer and fresher minds that had brought forth the most cunning and innovative ideas, after all, and had saved her old home from certain disaster time and time again, just as their lessons of old, their knowledge handed down from those who had come before. Hmm, well,
she began thoughtfully, running her paw underneath her chin, Usually I follow their scent until I come upon their herd, but I am careful not to scare them off. They're smart, and if they find out I'm following them, they'll purposefully change course.
It were a hard lesson she'd had to learn many, many times before. So, I'll usually mark where I last found them. Then, the next day I'll return to the same spot, and track them again. Once I've done this enough times, I can get a sense of the migration paths they take.
And, if left undisturbed, their paths would not change year after year.
As the lioness continued, Caltáriel nodded thoughtfully, placing her paws pleasantly before her. The herd had been all but forgotten. We could probably track down a few lemmings, if you'd like? They're small and tricky, but mighty delicious.
And certainly, not something she would find lingering around the Oasis.
Caillen's final response was hopeful to her. She had no true idea how bad the winters here could get, for her first arrival had been during the spring. I imagine we'll take longer hunting trips,
she mused thoughtfully, If we have to travel farther, then we hunt larger prey, bring back more that will last us longer.
