Discarded by a swift exhale, battered by another gust crossing the sands—they went scattered, their wings snapping in vain to catch balance. She watched them pass along the dusted floors, skipping and tumbling. The foliage that had once lined the gorge only sparsely remained, and the vermin’s bellies full of what had once been the subtle touch of green that suggested life lay there. Still, the huntress pressed forward. Steps crunching and scattering against the insects that remained underfoot. Pests, that no longer gathered in swarms but scattered in search of more plantlife. Aidoneus could not help but wonder how long it would keep its grip on the Dunes and its outlying areas. The gorge seemed vaster, emptier—aside from sparse tracks, aside from the buzzing of flies and the faint scent of prey. Prey—she rightly assumed—that was also in search of a meal. Hunger crawled along her gut, and the maenad followed the scent trail, following the tracks. The droning hum of insects faded as she went, but the sounds of footfalls grew louder. She wondered if it was the prey she tracked, or others who came to share in the hunt. Either case, she pressed onwards through the gorge.

The sheer size and number of insects strewn at the bottom of the canyon was rather disturbing. The sudden crackle of wings and short, aborted movements from things she'd thought were already dead startled the maned woman more than once. The hollow 'crunch' that sounded beneath her paws with every step she took set an unpleasant shiver up her spine, but still she continued, led on the by the faint scent of prey on the breeze. The locusts had not yet destroyed everything it seemed.

Off-putting though the sight of plague insects was, Adrien was still hungry, and this gorge offered an advantage in that there would only be so many ways for prey to escape, even from her. She had a good feeling that her tracking efforts would be worth it this time, especially once she caught sight of a striped lioness a little way up ahead. They could aid each other, she was certain.

She followed Aido with inquiring eyes. It wasn't like the woman needed guards le protection, but she liked Aidoneous, seeing her in better light than she would look at most individuals. Not just because she was who welcomed her to the pride but she liked her tenacity. A way all women should be in her own opinion.

She followed her into the dunes. The resent events had turned it into a almost lifeless place, with little plant life and dried soils. Would prey also suffer? Of course, no one could bare these harsher conditions. And hunger might make prey weaker. A good chance for lions to find easier targets. She could also detect the scent of prey, subtle but it was something. She followed it ready to pounce.

Fissure had never been to this place before, but he had found it intriguing when he had spotted the fissure in the ground from afar. The place did not seem to be suffering from heavy storms like elsewhere, but it would be too much to ask that it be free from any harm at all. Sweet mother nature, please allow him to pass unscathed, that he might sing your praises later, speak to your beauty and your power.

On arrival, he would note a cloud, but it was not one like any other cloud. It was dark and fast-moving, formed not from moisture, but from the bodies of locusts. He would inwardly cringe as he delved deeper, noting how the insects had ravaged the lands, eating all the plant life and leaving little else for anyone else. He didn't imagine many prey animals would loiter here, but perhaps they could find one on its way out?

He would hear the occasional crunch underfoot as he neared the others, expression one of disgust. Remind me to wash my feet with soaproot and water after this. He muttered to nobody in particular.

Recluse had been here well before the others currently investigating. He wished to know all that was influencing Amaryllis in the wake of these disasters. Recluse still struggled to absorb it all, to make sense of why it was happening. It seemed non-sensical from a logical standpoint, but Recluse was not a religious lion so could not make assumptions that it was some godly wrath or fated to happen or any such nonsense.

He had watched the goings-on from above the canyon, tracking the herds as they went along, desperate to take what little grass the insect swarm had left behind. From here, he would notice the gathering lions, the warm-hued and white-splashed female seemingly the one most intent on a hunt.

He would move towards @Aidoneus, deciding he should use his knowledge of the landscape to assist. "They is prey located just around the bend, perhaps a hundred yards. It is possible to maneuver a few lions around them to catch them in a pincer. I will move that way and assist from there." He informed, pausing only long enough to get a reaction before moving with haste along a broken path he had seen. With his agility, he was sure to get into a position of ambush fairly quickly.

he don’t mind the sand as much as he minds the bugs. lingerin’ ‘round like they was invited to the dunes, he finds their buzzin’ to be nothin’ but an annoyance. if he’d been ‘round when they were really swarmin’, he wouldn’t be out here still. but, while the weather is still strange ( and the land messed up for it ), fortunately for him the cloud of bugs gets thinner as he goes. instead they mostly paint the ground, leavin’ a right nasty trail to follow. so he trudges along, ignorin’ the ache in his paw, as he prowls forward — eager to join the gatherin’ of lions just up ahead.

a group means a hunt, and that means some food in his stomach. chuffin’ softly as he joins ‘em, doe settles in for a hunt — even if his attention strays, searchin’ for whatever it was they were gonna hunt today.

she’d much rather be here than in the snow. even with all the little buggies. the gorge itself is beautiful, awe-inspiring in the way it carves the land in two. it is, perhaps, a little less nice now — but that could be said for the rest of the island. daintily she makes her way through the bugs, hoping to end up on the other side of it — to join the hunting group already gathered.

she is close enough to the group to hear @Fissure as he speaks, even if his words aren’t meant for her exactly. she smiles, a cheeky little thing as she chirps: will do! with that said, she keeps her ears tucked tight against her skull ( not wanting any of the bugs to get inside, yuck! ) and focuses solely on the path before her. ready when the others are!

His quiet mutterings would not go unnoticed, as he was responded to by @Dhaveira with bubbly enthusiasm. She was a lovely lioness with a surprising optimism considering all that was happening of late, not least of all the bugs they were about to crunch their way across. "That is very kind of you my beautiful lady. I am only sorry you must stain those lovely paws with this rubbish." He mused, flicking one of them away as he noted it still moving.

With the completion of the hunt, he would forget the locusts for a time, pleased with what they had accomplished. There would be enough here for everyone to enjoy and to take back to their respective prides. He imagined Recluse would help him bring some to the cove. Speaking of, where had the galaxy swirled little lion gone? He enjoyed watching the lion from afar.

And so it went — with the ever so dashing and timely arrival of @Recluse, guiding luck into their favour. His sentience guiding them towards a fruitful exploit, she was grateful for his words, the guidance given. Watching him depart, and leading their hunt towards success. And success it was. Their prey fallen by their shared efforts, there seemed to be plenty for the party gathered. Well done, all. Her cheeks flushed with a joy almost long forgotten. Replacing the ills of her private life, and the steading life had adopted. No, this was a triumph to be savored. Coming to a rest, taking in the scattering of insects and the hunters, Aidoneus waited for them to ready their shares, to cart what they would to their caches. Satisfied all had taken what they needed, she as she often had, would eat her fill and sweep away the remnants of it homewards. exit.
