As the group heaved and pushed the young whale, Ghyslaine would give it her all. She would heave and push until her body positively ached. She couldn’t walk away from this- this creature could be killed for food- but none of them needed this easy of a meal and it was a baby. She worked alongside all these strangers, her intent solely focused on the youngster. When the whale calf finally made it into the water… she stepped back with the others, her lips parting in a beaming grin. She didn’t know if the creature would indeed make it, but with it in the water- hope was restored.

When a male speaks, she looks at him curiously @Reynir . She wonders who this Vellen is, and she almost voices the question- and instead she just smiles at him, and nods. {“Thank for helping.”} She said to him kindly.

Between the scent of marine life clogging his nostrils - thick and pungent, and undeniably foreign - and the sheer effort constricting his chest, Ilarion found his energy waning quickly. He was well-built and in his prime, but even he found this to be a struggle. A big struggle. It comes as a relief, then, that with just a few more minutes of straining and heaving, the calf was deep enough in the water to swim away of its own accord. Ilarion would watch it go, stationary; glad that the depth of the water would conceal his embarrassingly shaky legs. Those around him started to congratulate the group, and the Rurik would quietly turn to regard them all.

Credit where credit was due, and all that.

"Well done." Then, seeing no real need to linger any longer, he would take his leave. They'd done a good thing here today. A strange thing, certainly, but a good thing all the same.

Appreciative for every able body that arrived, he is not acutely aware of each individual. Blubber lined body felt heavy as his silvery shoulder pressed into the whale calf, not expecting to find it so thick. He should have been in line with @Absalon, though he wasn't certain who he stood by near his other side. Every muscle tensed, efforts expelled by each lion wavered in the air. Eventually the tubby thing was gifted back to the ocean. Paws became damp with salty water as he'd stumbled forth after the release of the creature back into water deep enough for it to swim.

Everyone who'd come ought to celebrate success. Huzzah! Joyful cheer left his lips as he backed out of the salted water, pale eyes skimming the faces of others in the shore. Silver face beamed, pleased with the results of strangers joining paws to save a life. Happy enough, he'd cast one last glance toward his cousin before marching off across the beach, intent on finding out if odd occurrences plagued the entire land or just the beach.

When their deed is done, and the whale disappears into the ocean to return to its home, the lions begin to shuffle from the beach, making their own way to wherever they had come before. A wheat-colored lioness paused before making her way off and turned to him, thanking him as well. He did not vocalize to her, but instead dipped his muzzle to her and smiled. She was a pretty thing with odd markings, but who was he to judge? He was a maneless male, and often got mistook for a large female.

Reynir decided to linger at Amani Cay for just a bit longer, so he padded back towards the small cliff that hung over the water's edge, and after settling down, he would try and commune with Vellen for a short while.

and then — it is finished.

with all their skill and strength combined, they are all able to cast the whale back into the sea. it is a surprising thing and absalon finds himself staring after the creature as it flops in the waves, joyfully returning to its home. he stares, too, much longer after it fades beneath the waves and from his sight — until the only thing left of the whale is the imprint it’d left behind in the sand. and, of course, the ache in his shoulder.

finally he turns his attention towards the others, lingering solidly upon hartvig. well done, he says to the group as a whole, a small smile curving his lips. there is… peace in this outcome, and they are glad they had not just killed the beast. with that, they are keen to take their leave — happy to leave the sand behind in favor of the more familiar mountains.

She waits until others speak and take their leave, before deciding that it is time for her to go as well. She studies them all for a moment, before finally deciding that it it’s time for her to go. She nods happily at the male who utters a happy cheer, @Hartvig and dips her head to the male of her pride, that she’s only seen before- but doesn’t know and hasn’t ever spoke too. @Illarion

As she moves to take her leave, she hears another male speak a ‘well done’, and she nods in his direction vaguely - @Absalon . With that, she takes her own leave.

Watson waited for others to agree or disagree with his statement, but it is the voice of @Papilio which catches his attention. Spreading out along the body of the whale was a good idea, and Watson nodded in agreement. That's a good idea. He praises the younger lion before moving further down the whale's body as its chest seemed to heave.

He awaits further orders, and the voice of @Hartvig catches his attention as he shouts to heave. Watson does as he is told and pushes, despite the apparent phantom pain he was feeling in his leg. It was tough, but he pushed through. The voice of @Reynir catches his attention next and whilst still pushing, Watson agreed. Saving its life is what I would prefer. He comments through gritted teeth, looking to the male if he could.

Eventually, and with enough momentum, the group of lions manages to successfully push the whale back into the sea and back to safety. It could rejoin its family (if it had any), and Watson was feeling quite good about himself. Turning round and walking back up shore, he addressed those that remained. Well done, that was quite the task, but we managed it. He remarked between breaths, hoping that the whale would be thankful for their efforts.

Each heave grew harder, each push sending searing pain down her legs and through her belly, using the brutal force of her strength to try and push the calf. It was only when they were joined by more lions did they finally begin to find traction, and it was only when waves sputtering from the ocean began to wash over the whale did they finally break free of its rocky prison. It happened all at once; what had been nearly stagnant and impossible suddenly slipped away, and the whale was able to worm itself through the slick rock surface and slide right back into the sea. Thankfully, it was deep enough for it not to re-beach herself.

Arsynia would have still considered it more worthwhile to end its misery, to not give it the trauma of this experience, or the scars that would now line its belly. It would have been just as easy to disembowel it accidentally as it would have to have freed it; it was a brutal gamble they had taken, and luckily for them all, they had won. The Tollaire would return home that day knowing she'd done something good; but even she was not naïve enough to relish in that feeling.

With each breath that passed through his lungs, Watson gained back some control over his breathing. His eyes are darting all over the place, frantically watching to ensure that other lions were okay and no one was injured and required his assistance. But he is thankful to find that this not the case - everyone seemed well enough to depart and head back home.

Before he departs to go and tell Sherlock about his endeavours, Watson casts one last look out to the shore. He departs from the group and walks back down to the shoreline, where the water begins to lap at his paws. In the distance he sees what seems like a flick of a tail, perhaps from the dolphin saying thank you, perhaps just a stray wave. Whatever it was, Watson was content with his efforts today and departed for home.

he'd settle himself as instructed, between the wolfish woman and a larger man. heaving with all of their might, the beast eventually was freed and lochlan stood back with awe at their handywork. others trickled off, and he'd nod to them, murmuring about how well they'd all done.

loch didn't pretend to be perfect. he'd certainly thought about eating the poor creature, but he'd also figured it was best to have mercy. although it wasn't another lion, it was a living thing all the same. and dying by suffocation may just be one of the worst ways to go.

golden eyes would watch the sea-line a long moment, gasping as a spout of water was shot from just below the surface. it was another thing about the animal he'd learned - its ability to shoot water from its head. the merle man had never thought he'd get the chance to see such a sight, and couldn't help but indulge in his more childish of natures in that moment.

was that a thank you? a chuckle to himself and lochlan would plod off, ready to rest before maybe finding a true meal.
