The moon was high in the sky by the time Sahir made his way home, his muscles throbbing with exertion. While the work of leading a pride was always noteworthy, the recent events in Amaryllis had multiplied that labor tenfold. Nothing was safe. Nothing was simple. Food was harder to find than ever, and the sea – once a beloved neighbor – was volatile at best.

The king entered the shelter of a rocky alcove, flopping on his side with a loud grunt and laying utterly still. He would have liked to pass out then and there, content to dream for the rest of his days if it meant sparing him from the ceaseless labor of late.

Dealing with rambunctious children, a growing pride, navigating the ever-shifting political scene and the borderline traumatic weather changes... well, it had been lot for Basira, especially as she was still recovering from her illness. But if it was a challenge for her, it had to be tenfold for @Sahir. It was clear in the way he sloped across the dunes and headed towards the nearest shelter. She watched him from her own position, expression heavy and brows furrowed. He was tired. It was time for her to step up again. So, with decisive steps, she closed the gap between her own little shelter and the one her husband now occupied. "Sahir," she called quietly into the shadows, pale gaze shifting around until they found the form of her spouse. "Are you alright?" Lowering herself down, she would aim to settle beside him.

My poor fatigued soldier.

Outside, the wind raged. Currently, it was not as bad as it had been - she'd seen near-on hurricanes hurtling around outside her door before now - but it could change at the drop of a hat. So she would remain vigilant, watching the distant waves rage, tall and terrifying. Even the walls of this shelter seemed more eroded then when she'd last seen it. The land was... changing. And they could do nothing to stop it.

He heard her pawsteps first, though the fatigued king did not bother to lift up his head. Whomever it was, the odds proved that it would be a member of the pride and therefore trustworthy. Sahir dragged himself into consciousness, finally opening his eyes once he smelled Basira's ever-familiar perfume. It was the same as ever, only saltier since coming to the seaside.

"مرهق" Tired, he grumbled simply. Without further pomp, he reached out with his forearms and attempted to wrap them around her neck in a greedy hug, trying to tug the lioness down in a suffocating embrace – not unlike a child latching onto their stuffed bear.

"وأنت؟" You?

As expected, the King barely lifted his head in acknowledgement - a clear sign of how fatigued he was. Once she had tucked herself next to him, though, the King quickly found enough strength to manoeuvre his limbs to pull her into a bear hug. It was something she would have welcomed greedily in any weather, but in conditions like this? When it was blustery and stormy and wild? Well, she appreciated it all the more. With a throaty purr she tucked herself further into his warmth, craning her head over in order to plant a kiss to the soft underneath of his chin. "نعم، أنا أيضا" she rumbled with light empathy, chuckling softly as he bore further weight down onto her in his loving grip. "اعتقدت أنك قلت أنك متعب؟ أنت لا تبدو لي ذلك." At this, she lifted a paw and sought to pat at his cheek affectionately.

As he pulled her downward, he squeezed her tightly, burying his muzzle into her plush fur and drinking in her scent. Sahir could practically feel his bunched nerves unwinding as he lay there, the relentless storms outside raging. Basira had always felt like shelter from a storm.

"أنا لا؟" I don't? He murmured groggily. Without further warning, the brute tried to use his hold on her to roll over, attempting to shift his queen so she would be positioned under his suffocating weight. "هل حقا؟" Really? Sahir asked, still not even bothering to open his eyes. He relaxed his muscles fully, essentially turning onto a boulder of dead-weight on top of her.

Being the great hulking lummox that he was, it was little surprise that @Sahir would try and frazzle her by rolling her beneath him and effectively pinning her down with his weight. With faux grumbles of protest, the maroon wraith wriggled and huffed beneath him, using her one free forelimb to swat at his sides. "أزل نفسك عني ، أيها الوحش السمين العظيم! هل ستعامل ملكتك هكذا؟" She swatted further, faltering a second later upon realizing that - technically - they had not discussed her promotion back into the rank she belonged in. This seemed as good a time as any, surely? What better way for a woman to get what she wanted than when she was underneath a man? "بالحديث عن ذلك... متى ستعطي ذلك-" she huffed in exertion, then, finding her breath shortening, given his weight - no doubt he would get the picture and relent in a moment, "العودة إلي؟"

Sahir winced under the onslaught of her paws swatting at him repeatedly, a chuckle forcing its way out of his chest as she called him fat, of all things. In a terrible thought, it occurred to Sahir that her paws tapping rapidly against his sides felt eerily similar to the pelting of locusts as they had swarmed all around him that terrible day. He finally moved to roll off of her.

He parted his eyelids to reveal that brilliant dandelion gaze as he looked over at her, trying to give her a chance to catch her breath as she brought up the subject of her title.

"لك أن تأخذ" It is yours to take, he reminded her calmly, studying her features in the quiet. "هل لديك ما يكفي من الطاقة؟" Do you have the energy? Sahir asked, still positioned on his back as his paws dangled in the air.

It was hers to take. And so she would. Greedily, too; like everything before and everything that was to come. Take, take, take - all with that saccharine smile. He had not refused her yet, and judging by his words it wasn’t going to happen any time soon either. Good. As he rolled off of her, asking about her health, she would roll onto her side so as to more easily reach out for him and nestle her head into his chest, slinging a limb over his abdomen. “Yes,” she hummed, “I do now. You have been a good husband, to have such patience with me.” Her smile, then, turned mischievous. “Perhaps when you have recovered I will be able to show you how much energy I have.” A weighty promise indeed.

And with the wind howling outside the way that it was? It was the best sort of privacy they could ask for. It was practically guaranteed.

As she accepted the rank, a fire burned within Sahir's chest – it was the same one that burned when he witnessed her political prowess or watched her take charge. Basira never failed to please him. Tugging a smile at the edges of his inky lips, he nodded his head slightly. Good. “Perhaps when you have recovered I will be able to show you how much energy I have," she teased in her accented tones, propping up Sahir's brow with interest.

"ماذا لو كنت أشعر بتحسن؟" What if I'm feeling better? He asked, propping himself up on his own elbow in a mirrored splay. His tail lashed like a whip as he finally opened his gaze fully – shining, alert, and interested.

It came as no surprise that @Sahir, upon being propositioned, would perk up considerably. It’s why they were so well suited, honestly. So, with a smile, Basira would roll over to rise to her paws, stretching herself out playfully before moving to stand before him. To present herself, just as any good wife would. Whatever happened next would be for their eyes alone - to indulge in whichever level of intimacy the mood took them. Health and obligation had kept them apart for too long.

Tonight, with the storm raging on above their heads and the air thick with electricity, they were alone and belonged only to each other.
