But today he felt like doing something a little different, which led him to the waterfalls. He stood atop of a rock that overhung a little over the pool of water, yellow gaze studying his surroundings. He would observe silently, watching the crashing waves before his eyes would find themselves trained on what was behind the waterfall. Was that a cave of sorts? The dark and blurred image he was seeing made it difficult to tell, and as he were about to leap from his perch did a scent waft toward him, causing for him to stiffen in his movements. Attention would flicker to the territory as a whole, shoulders rolling forward slightly and his body slowly crouching. He couldn't see it, but he could smell it: Dinner. |

Spring
The rain is slowly peetering out across the lands, though it is still heaviest in the east and lightest in the west. Thankfully, however, the temperature is steadly rising and the sun no longer hides behind the clouds. In celebration of the new season, the vegetation is alive and lush and plants are growing wildly across the valley. Spring is in the air!

5 years, no bonus This season was proving to be unusually generous for the hunter; every turn seemed to brim with opportunities for hunting and entertainment – the former of which he intended to take full advantage of. The latter he mostly avoided, especially when it came to the affairs of his larger cousins, but on this day the leopard found himself in a bit of a quandary. Cyrus had been tracking the scent of a monkey through both floor and canopy when the fragrance of another became interwoven on the trail of his would-be dinner. It was strong enough for the leopard to reconsider his hunt; he did not care to duel a lion for his meal, but he could not yet tell if the lion and him shared a target, or if the lion was simply in the area. A wiser creature would have turned away, but the leopard decided to continue; although he had enough sense to rub himself against some of the headier flora of the jungle as he made his way through the treetops with the supple grace of his species. By the time the leopard reached a break in the trees, his scent was decently swathed in the other aromas of the jungle, and he settled his belly against the branch as his eyes flicked over the vicinity. For a moment, his attention was monopolized by the colossal figure of a yearling lion perched on a stone outcropping by the waterfall, body language alert as he seemed to shift into a crouch, every detail signaling to the leopard that there was something worth noting in the area. The ranger flicked his attention away from the lion, eyes curious and mouth parting slightly with gentle inhalations as he sought other details he may have missed. Only then did the hunter catch the scent of their potential dinner, sending a ripple of tension through his spotted hide. He shifted back into a crouch, ears flicking forward and back again as his claws poked from his toes – his gaze momentarily sweeping back to the yearling lion that easily dwarfed him. Only time would tell if and how this would work, but it seemed the leopard was willing to take that risk for the moment. +5 Follow the scent of prey (x10) +5 Practice concealing your scent (x10) +5 Participate in a hunt using the rolled hunt system (x10) |

There was still a sure habit that clutched it's fingers to the now pride-bound lion; the habit of wandering. He had been here before, but it had been some time. Today, he is dragged curiously by the scent of a young male - remembering the last time he had encountered a rogue yearling, he had both made a friend and obtained a new member for The Mire.
Though, upon his rather clumsy arrival (loud and conspicuous), it seems the boy is crouching with intent over a ledge. A hunt? He approaches, perhaps more blasé than he should have been. The most interesting company however, was a creature that was definitely not a lion. "What is that?" he asks the young lion blatantly, staring and waving a paw at the Leopard. Regardless, he guessed he'd tag along for a kill.

Renly loved the grand idea of someone calling for a hunt. A stranger that she had no previous interactions with nor any guess as to who it might be and as dangerous as it could be, it was thrilling. Another individual that perhaps liked hunting just as much as she did, or in the very least simply wanted a quick meal. Either way she supported it because it gave her an opportunity to extend a branch from Vermeda as well as keep her stomach and the cache somewhat full.
As she began to make her way out of her own pride lands towards the call, she opted to double-check the cache like she did on the last excursion. Sniffing at the outside of it to see if anyone had taken anything from it recently before swiping a paw left and right, finding that this one had not yet been touched. So she traveled some distance out of the way to check the next one which seemed to have been taken from recently. Calculating it and hoping that she could bring home just enough to fill back what had been taken.
Eventually moving out in the direction of the call while also keeping her nose to the ground as she tried to figure out what it was the caller had found for them. It seemed indistinctive at first, something she couldn't quite figure out. Brows furrowed in confusion and light frustration as she continued on its trail, eventually finding its footprints. Though, that didn't really help her either. Being a new ranger was certainly quite tough but she was at least driven to solve her self-made mystery.
So she eased into the scenario just as @Violarum pointed at the spotted thing and questioned its very existence. Renly didn't have an answer -- she'd seen a tiger come out of the mist but the tiger had stripes and this one had spots. That was on the opposite end of the design pool and thus didn't want to make assumptions and look the fool. All she could offer was a confused look to the leopard, hoping he might answer.

She found her nose leading her towards the scent of prey; following it with a determination in her. She wasn't the only one, though, she saw some familiar faces and some strangers. And some weird... creature. She studied @Cyrus for a second to determine if they were prey or not, but satisfied on her judgement she focused instead on the task before her- dinner.

He saunters onto the plateau, one or two lion lengths behind @Violarum. Weird. He's never been able to find the waterfall before. His senses are working overtime, looking around cautiously as a number of scents intermingle. He notices the lion perched atop a rock, seemingly scouring the environment as well, and the various others gathering: it seems these falls are full of opportunity today. When his eyes catch @Cyrus, his body tenses briefly. He suppresses a snarl—when he was still a rogue, his kind usually meant trouble. When he was younger, he almost got picked off by a leopard just like him. They wouldn't pilfer food from lions, but they were competition, and that was enough for Ambrose. "Looks like dessert to me." He remarks offhandedly, before his attention is drawn by the gigantic yearling dropping off his perch. He seems to have noticed a change in the air, and Ambrose notices it too. He crouches hestitantly, tail lashing behind him as he tries to uncover the source of the scent.

Trudging lazily after her brother, the sound of crashing water swelled in her ears. In the desert from where she hailed, hearing the sound of water usually meant she was having some kind of dehydration-induced mental break. Ears swivelling forward, she picked her head up, sighting on an impressive waterfall. That wasn't all; all converging to said waterfall were several lions, and one... leopard? She knew it wasn't a mirage, as they all had their sights trained towards the same male, one of seemingly similar age to her, standing on a rocky outcrop. She suddenly felt as if something important was about to happen here-- judging by the fixed look in the male's eyes and the sudden tensing of his muscles, he'd clearly caught a whiff of something. Normally, she hunted alone, but even Uma knew to seize an opportunity when it presented itself to her. Following the male's lead, she slowly began lowering her body to the ground, watching the proceedings with an alert eye.

A little late to the party perhaps, but Salacia had her reasons. Rolling in flowers and dirt (which she hated to do more than ever) took time- and with a few tucked behind her ear to continue to help conceal her true scent, she felt confident enough to join the group. Limbs brought her forward to their scents, slender frame jogging over the terrain to practice her speed, pacing herself until she neared them. Silently, she pondered what the prey was… and just how much she would be able to take for herself. She moved to the side, away from some, and focused on the task at hand with a greedy hunger for food and success.

it is strange, he thinks, how he could’ve lived here for so long and yet never found this place. there is a hunt in the area, and this is the only reason he is drawn forward — coaxed behind the waterfall by a throng of greenlanders. without them, he might have never found this particular nook. it is hidden in itself but useful to have and keep, tucking it away for any future reference. because at the moment, there are bigger things afoot. he falls into step, quiet and haunted, whiskers twitching as he enters from behind the curtain of water. the space of the little grotto feels cramped ( more cramped than obsidian ever did ), but above the stench of lions there is something more. dinner. a clear goal, and a good one to have, even if he might have to work his way through all these lions to get it. it does not fill him with much confidence that they all seem young ( or maybe he is just getting old? ) but he settles in, muscles poised and ready.

asteria had wandered further from the hollows than she normally did, heading towards the towering peak that offered such a sweeping view of the continent. there were memories up here, some good and some bad, and she allowed her mind to drift as she picked up a steady pace. faster, then, with a pleasant burn to her limbs, a stretch of muscle long needed. soon she was running at near full speed, slowing only when she had climbed towards the glistening waterfall. her breath came fast but she picked up the scent of prey, drawn like the rest of the group she soon came upon. there were tracks, signs of something passing through, and the ranger lowered her head and followed them. her eyes were bright and focused and intent, and while she could not immediately recognize the tracks she worked to memorize them all the same. Soon she would know, and she would not quickly forget. reaching the group she realized she did not know any of them, and so she hung back, watching and waiting for the sign to hunt. — 1 year old — no bonus — |
