he was little more than a sullen teenager and there was no doubt he would test her patience. Even as he flops down she quirks a brow in his direction, steadying him with a look that clearly implied "are you serious?"
with a small sigh she settled more quietly beside him, watching him closely for any signs of interest at all. "have ye never had to fish before?" it seemed a shock to her -- he was a grown lion! perhaps if he had never lived near the sea...
"in any case ye will love it i have no doubt. ye cen hunt wit'out havin to get off yer ass." a wry grin, sensing that this might appeal to him above all else.
Admittedly, Violarum is barely listening to his company until she makes mention of food without getting off his backside, and it’s clear that he perks - ears twitching and shoulders rolling forward with interest. “Show me,” Vio insists, glancing from @Calypso to water like an eager child.

He was young and bossy but for the most part she tolerated him, merely rolling her eyes at his short demand. "Ye jest have to be still," she instructed, as she positioned herself at the edge of the tidepool. Calypso could see the silvery shadows beneath the surface and knew she could prove her point with just a few quiet moments.
"An' stay quiet," she added, her voice hushed as she poised her paw over the surface, close enough to the stone edge that they would not see the shape of it. "If yer patient it just takes time..." and then she lapsed in to silence, ocean grey eyes focused on the water, watching the fish dart back and forth. It didn't take overly long for one to stray close enough to the surface, and quick as a whip she struck, hooking her claws through the water and in to the scaly creature. With a jerk of her arm she yanked the fish from the pool, and looked up at @Violarum to see what he thought of it all.
It’s not particularly big but he supposes it will do, heaving off his backside to go and eat it. Perhaps it was his turn to dip a paw, but he nonchalantly hopes @Calypso is merciful and willing to surrender her catch to a good cause. Filling his belly. “Good one,” he remarks with an incredibly forced and laughable attempt to be inspiring, no doubt intended as a distraction, strolling to the flapping creature with his ears perked hopefully.
ah ah ah, not so fast.
in a flurry of movement she is rising after him, moving to intercept him and slamming a paw down on the flopping fish. it's frantic movements slow beneath the weight of her paw, and a moment later it stills entirely. her gaze lingers on him, and a smirk touches her lips.
"ye cen catch yer own, aye." a wave of her other paw at the pools of water, followed by a quirk of her brow. to hammer home the point she stooped to tear in to the slimy creature, chewing it with relish as she watched to see if the boy would make his own attempt at fetching a meal.
@Violarum
Calypso would not shy from his flash of teeth -- in fact all they earned from her was a roll of her eyes. He was a stubborn boy, young and lazy and inexperienced, and she was not going to balk at the notion of whipping him in to shape. Clearly he could use a few lessons on manners.
"Jest be still," she admonished with only the slightest hint of irritation in her voice. "If ye thump aroun' like an elephant ye'll scare d'em all to the depths." She plucked her meal from the ground and moved closer, settling quietly beside him before she placed her own fish between her paws. "If yer still an' quiet d'ey will come back."
it is the kind of attention that is clearly not attention. he makes noises as if he is listening but they are ill-timed, and she is not so quick to forget their last meeting. @Violarum is foolhardy and careless at times, looking for an easy out, and she half expects him to try something silly again.
so when his paw lifts and it is very much not over the water, she is already tensed. when he strikes she is backpedaling quickly, ducking under his arm and escaping his jaws with little more than a few lost hairs.
her claws were neatly hooked in the half-eaten fish, dragging it with her as she dodged his attack. calypso settled on to her haunches and leveled him with a look that screamed disappointment. "yer on yer own," she said simply, with a bored roll of her shoulders that made it quite clear she did not care to keep teaching this boy.
