Winter was starting to fade. It wasn't quiet getting warm yet though. Quite the contrary the wind was particularly vicious today and drove a chill into the spines and souls. A warm meal would suffice nice to burn off the edge of the wind's bite... And animals were beginning to trek back further into the forest. Some smaller game trying to get the jump on the new growth that would come. Aquila crept along, sniffing at the breeze and tracking a trail of something that had passed by into the lands. The scent grew thicker as he grew closer.

Summer
With the last of the rainfall seeming to have swept across the peninsula, summer days await! The days are warm, though comfortable, and peeter off into more mild evenings while the humidity remains low. It is the perfect inbetween until things transition towards more sweltering temperatures, so best enjoy it while it is here.

Age: 7 y/o
Trade Bonus: Pathfinder Lv. 5 (+1 dice to hunt rolls)
It wasn't his job but still Caligula couldn't break the habit of patrolling borders. He had done it for years so now it was almost a second nature sort of thing. And with his circuit being made did he come upon the scent of prey. But over that was the stronger scent of the High Sovereign in the area.
The bronze male left off his patrolling and took a wide path around so as not to spook the prey. He came up behind Aquila and greeted the other lion with a silent nod of his head. The other was tracking and he wasn't about to ruin that for him.

A tickle of prey scent drew the plush feline from her meandering through the territory. As a Nursemaid, it was part of her job to keep an eye on the food stores and since the chaos recently, their stores could definitely do with topping up. As her slight form slipped through the trees, she caught sight of two figures she recognised - Aquila and a lion she didn't know the name of but had seen around the pride. She offered each a small smile, understanding that they were all here for the same purpose and it wouldn't be long before they caught up to their prey.

Her growling belly and the scent of prey in the air was what drew her to the small gathering of Brook lions. Wanheda knew she had been rather... lazy as of late, but the colder months had often caused for her to hibernate. She was never a huge fan of the chill or snow and couldn't possibly begin to understand those that preferred or even enjoyed it.
Something about this prey enticed her enough to join them, wondering exactly what it was. But nonetheless she was here, an able body ready and willing to help execute a hunt and take down whatever their potential meal was. Her boy would crouch and muscles would tense, icy gaze shifting and glancing around them to see if she could spot any sort of movement.

Just like the others would she, too, be drawn by the scent of prey. It was never a bad time to hunt, especially when Vermeda had many mouths to feed. There was never such a thing as 'too much' food in her eyes. Pink form would move with soft paw steps, allowing for her nose to guide her to the small group of Brook lions that had gathered. Her ears would prick forward and a nod would be given to those there, her eyes flicking around to see if she could spot anything. "Hopefully it is a good meal," she would muse, mostly to herself but spoken loud enough for the ones closest to her to overhear. She was ready to take down whatever it was that brought them all here.

He grasped the tough skin of the rhino's hide below his claws. Even the young calf put up a fair fight and required strength to take down. Aquila's breath was heavy at the end of it, a splattering of blood across his muzzle and staining his teeth. Proud, but too tired to speak, he looked at the lions gathered and nodded. He tilted his muzzle towards the fresh kill. It was theirs to do with as they pleased, first dibs given over to the rest of hunting party before he would take the rest of it to the cache.

Luck was upon them - a rhinoceros calf vulnerable and separated from its mother. In spite of the youth and inexperience of the calf, it still took them all to take it down. There was something heartbreaking about the bleating of the calf as it went down, but Lena knew it was about survival. It would feed the cubs, always voraciously hungry, and the rest of the pride who were still recovering from the trauma of the recent challenge. The tough hide of the calf was a set back, but the hunters were enough to bring it down and all too quickly the bleating stopped. With a pant of breath, Lena grinned eagerly before helping Aquila stash some of the meat.

A rhino calf turned out to be on the menu. Caligula joined in as part of the chasing crew, letting those with the strength to do so be part of the take down. All in all it went well. The calf was felled and the hunting party fell in to eat. Caligula joined them, taking a couple of bites for himself and swallowing quickly.
When everyone had taken what they wanted Caligula helped with the dragging of the remains back to the cache. There were already a couple of lions doing so but dead weight could get tiring to carry. He would be there to act as relief for those that needed it.
