Standing in the center of the arena, a place she seemed to be coming to often. Knowing that this was a place that created chaos. A place that drew those that wished to fight and get out any anger that may be bottled up inside. Ástríðr didn't have any anger in her, not yet anyways, but that would change in due time as she went through the defenses and moves that she could possibly use on another that would come and entertain her with a spar. Though friendly, Ástríðr never went easy on her opponent especially since most were not natives.

wandering back towards the confines of the pit, voluspa was curious to discover if anything else of interest would befall the lands today. she had seen one of her own pride members come here to challenge for a rank, and did not doubt that many others stood had once stood amongst the slabs of limestone with similar intentions, both eager and determined to test their own prowess and ambition. initially, she had not been intending to find herself in the thralls of battle, but it was slowly that she pulled up alongside the highest edge of the crater nonetheless, neck craning to glance down, curious to see if anyone loomed within. and it was there that @Ástríðr stood, poised and at the ready for whoever would be the first to join her within the ring. which just happened to be voluspa, it would seem.

opting to test her luck, the yearling would trail down the sides of the pit, her chest rumbling in a sound of greeting, whilst posture remained neutral, if not a little unsuspecting. "will you let me practice against you?" she asked after reaching the base of the arena, doing her best to convey confidence with the smooth rolling of her voice. she had never fought anyone other than her sister, but she knew that her time would come. and she wanted to be ready for it when it did. "my name is voluspa sigrun." she added, out of politeness, if nothing else, eyes remaining perched purposefully on the stranger as she was equally prepared to be accepted or dismissed within the next few moments.

Another soon arrived and Ástríðr found herself looking to the other who smelled of the coast line. Words came across the arena as Voluspa asked if she could spar against her and a nod came from the woman's head. It is what I am here for. She would speak before hearing a name, Ástríðr Vargr. Rarely did she give out her last name but it was out of respect of the other. You go first. She would admit, letting the other who seemed nervous - or perhaps she was reading her wrong - make the first move. Normally it was she who did it but not today.

much to voluspa's relief, @Ástríðr met her arrival with an even gaze and a nod of her head, signaling that she would be willing to partake in the spar (even though it may have been below her level of expertise). it caused a small breath to release itself from the sigrun's tightened lungs, her nervousness ebbing, slowly, as she settled into the mindset of battle. nodding absently in return to the woman's words as they reached out across the air, all that was left was to rip that band-aid off, and embrace the strong, resilient lineage from which she had been bred.

thinking back to all of the fights that she had bore witness too throughout her life, it was instinctively that the yearling would abruptly look to shoot herself forward, aiming to approach astridr head-on, to the best of her ability. hoping to close the distance between them with a few, long strides, voluspa's jaws would then twist, looking to reach up and attempting to snap lightly at the flesh of her opponent's left shoulder, while grounding her balance across spread limbs and splayed toes. at the same time, voluspa's right forelimb would seek to raise from the earth, snaking forward and attempting to bat at astridr's left flank with her paw, wherever she could manage to reach behind her shoulderblade.

Sea foam jewels watched as the other began to come towards her in a sprint. Coming head on as Ástríðr expected and would allow her. Tucking her head down closer to the ground Ástríðr would attempt to throw her right shoulder outwards as that there would possibly be contact to Voluspa's chest. If there was, bruising would surely form, but by in attempting that attack Voluspa's jaws met their mark. Puncture wounds - though light - could be found on the left side of her shoulder and a growl would form. Claws even ranked down her left side leaving laceration's behind but Ástríðr would then attempt to grab at her opponent's right leg and attempt to jerk it up if she were successful in her grab.

voluspa may have managed to hit her mark, but it did not come without immediate consequence. for the moment that the space dissipated between them, by her own intentions, she felt the bulk of @Ástríðr's right shoulder slam into the center of her chest, instantly fumbling the yearling as her stature wavered. a bruise would bloom almost immediately, hot pain radiating from the point of contact as she gritted her teeth -- but she could not stop now, not when it had only just begun. salvation came, thankfully, as both her fangs and her claws found purchase upon their targets, noting that the familiar taste of iron on her tongue served to heighten the pounding of adrenaline within her ears.

it was then, however, that astridr lunged for voluspa's right forelimb, managing to secure a grasp on the raised appendage before forcefully jerking it upwards. a growl of pain escaped voluspa then, feeling the deep sting of teeth and the discomfort of her forelimb getting tossed around, moderate lacerations now oozing crimson amongst the darkness of her pelt. inexperienced as she may be, the valkyrie knew that this was not a position that she wanted to be in -- and so, she would attempt to reach forward again, teeth aiming this time for the tender flesh of her opponent's muzzle. i'll take that back, please and thank you!

Teeth wrapped around Voluspa's wrist and her head jerked up. Successful, but not with another attack coming in her direction. Letting go of the other's right paw, Ástríðr would tuck her head in slightly as she would attempt to meet jaws with the top of her head, aiming to head butt Voluspa's jaws as a counter knowing that injuries would happen regardless but perhaps not on her muzzle as the other would have hoped. Ears pushed down to be flat on her head as she would also attempt to push herself into Voluspa's chest. She wasn't sure at that point, just trying something.

pain continued to sear across her grasped paw, stomach lurching at the swelling sensation of pain, while also trying to control her movements for the next wave of battle. splayed jaws reached forward, but were deterred by the sudden jerk of @Ástríðr's head, swinging up and towards voluspa in the middle of her attack. without having enoguh tiem to react, the woman's skull smacked squarely into the lower part of the the sigrun's jaws, igniting another series of bruises along the bone, and causing her own teeth to clamp against the sides of her tongue, slicing small lacerations in the wake of the impact. she did not intend to let the viking off that easily, however, for voluspa would aim to keep herself tilted forward, attempting to snap at the top of the woman's head while they remained in close quarters.

it was only a moment later, however, that she felt astridr bullying herself forward into her chest again, irritating the already bruised area and adding to the fatigue that now seeped across her bones. looking to return her right forelimb to the ground, she would undoubtedly force herself to continue, fighting through the pain, and the adrenaline, and the exhaustion, if only to prove herself the best that she could. and so, in a last ditch effort, voluspa's left paw would raise, barely hovering above the ground as she tried to swipe quickly at astridr's right ankle. if only to falter her, even if it was just slightly.

Teeth found the top of her head, surely they would get a mouthful of her mane but it wasn't like a males, so there was lacerations made though moderate. Ástríðr was successful in making contact with her chest and would attempt to keep pushing against it. Claws digging into her right ankle around the precious tendon's. A snarl forming as Ástríðr would attempt to lower her head enough to grab at the paw attacking her once again. Jaws aiming to snap around the middle section of the arm above the elbow.
