Prompt: A kudu wanders into Obsidian in a hunt to find some shade from the sun.

Wandering at a glacial pace alongside the borders of the Hollow, she still wasn't entirely convinced on her comfort level. Ember still felt like a stranger here despite knowing at least two lions on a more personal level than she had in her whole life. Being more tied down to a particular area of Amaryllis felt odd but hard to tell if it was a bad or good way. At least patrolling the borders and taking one step at a time, it typically distracted her from her outrageous thoughts. One step at a time, ears on a swivel and her nose and eyes working over time to keep unwanted creatures out. Usually attempting to discern Savante's from absolute strangers given that most of them sort of had the same pattern and same vibe.

Though, her nose quickly moved closer to the ground as she stumbled across the scent of a kudu that had passed into their borders and seemingly headed straight into their caverns. With a chuff to anyone nearby she began to roll in the slight coverings of the snow at her feet, rubbing up on the trees on the outside to cover her scent before moving inside the cavernous home. Following its trail curiously and hoping that she might have signaled other lions in the Hollow to come assist. Ember felt confident she could do it solo but her hunting skills weren't exactly up to par inside of the tunnels of the Hollow.

The scent of kudu in the air stirred the beast from his usual monotony. It was about time something substantial came to their doorstep. The hate had just simply not been worth it. As he followed the trail, it quickly became apparent that he wasn't the only one to notice the trespasser as his dual toned gaze landed on @Ember. Her ears were the first thing the hound noticed. Not unlike his own, though now one was torn away. He briefly wondered what ridicule the young woman had endured thus far in life simply because of the shape of her ears. It was why he had been discarded, after all, but then the mutt remembered why they were there in the first place.Food.

"You're new," his gruff voice commented offhandedly before letting his attention return to the kudu trail. Could the two of them catch it?

Prince, is his new title. It did not feel so strange; but it had never been his before, even when his father had ruled before. The war had come before anything could be official, before he could be certain of himself, and now, Valerian quite likes it.

Even more, he is enjoying the caverns; it truly felt where he should belong… even if he would miss the oasis. So he sets out to learn the territory, all the twists and turns and the further mountainous borders. He is outside, surveying when he hears a chuff rise up - an obvious call for a hunt.

White paws carry him closer, finding the form of @Ember - whom he recognised from the challenge - and @Dog, an older lion who he did not yet know. Valerian offers a subtle nod to the pair of them. “Any shots on the pelt?” he rumbles quietly but conversationally, not wanting to disturb their quarry.

Perhaps these caverns should feel claustrophobic to a beast of his size, but such an idea could be farther from the truth. Mircea finds an odd sense of security in the way the stone walls scraped against his dappled hide as he plods past. It's as if he belongs here, in the gloom of even the narrow, twisting passageways.

Mircea has resolved to familiarize himself with every inch of the mountain's halls, and he works at it methodically as he patrols their borders, pausing to examine every cavern opening he notices from the outside, leaving behind evidence of his presence in the form of pale claw marks scoring the grey walls. Marking his claim upon his family's new home with the refined points of his talons.

He is distracted from this task of his when the scent of an intruder catches his attention. Yes, it may be a hooved intruder, but the beast would stalk after it and back into the darkness all the same, massive skull dropped down low, tan nose twitching after the smell of blood meat. He is not the first to follow it - his path would lead him to a trio that featured his nephew alongside a woman Mircea did not know well and an entirely unknown man.

"Just give it to the lady." He grunts out, rough but quiet, in response to @Valerian as he draws closer, though the majority of his focus remained on their unsuspecting quarry. Maneuvering himself in here might be a bit difficult...

four years, no perks

He quite liked it here, he'd found. The shadows of the Hollow made it into a sort of perpetual night, and seeing as he was mostly nocturnal that worked out for him quite well. Besides that, they were infinitely closer to the Mother here. An excellent choice all around by Alexander, he thought. Not that his opinion on the matter meant anything.

It seemed as though there was also the added benefit of food walking right into their midst, trapping itself in the labyrinthine series of tunnels and caves. It certainly couldn't get out without getting past one or more of them, and judging by the size of the group he joined up with, more was putting it mildly.

Typically speaking, Angelo didn't care too much about joining up with hunts. It was a lot of energy to burn getting his massive frame going at any kind of speed, and there were plenty of others within the family who were better suited to it. So, really he only came along when they were after something really big, where his size might tip the scales in their favor.

Or when the prey happened to clip clop right past his den while he was in it.

Angelo blinked a few times, trying to decide if he'd actually seen what he thought he had. Poking his head out of the cave he'd set up camp in, he looked down the passage and confirmed that yes, a kudu had just wandered past his sleeping quarters without so much as a how-do-you-do. Well, wasn't that just rude and convenient.

Alexander was late to the gathering for the pride, but was quick to catch up when he realized he might be needed. The kudu in the distance seemed like a small meal for those present, but he new his kin and the others would do well to preserve it. Another hunt was more than easy enough to arrange as well. Offering a nod to all those gathered, he slides up beside Ember, finding it odd that this creature had wandered into the Hollows with it smelling so prominent of lion. Regardless, he would wait and allow another to make the first move. Body lowers, glad that so far in the wind did not carry along the tunnels.

The first to join her was a brutish looking male but it was the marking underneath his eye that first caught her attention. While he was busy staring at her folded ears and concerning himself with if she got bullied or not, she was too busy being enamored by his under-eye marks. So what if it was potentially just war paint? It looked nice and was a nice compliment to her own gothic-punk eyeliner. Makes you new, too. She smirks out of the side of her mouth for she hadn't known that @Dog had been a remaining member before Alexander took over and thus made the assumption that he had come with the mass of Savante.

Then another showed, @Valerian, and while her first thought was that it was a female -- given the lack of mane -- she was quick to realize that it wasn't. The lack of a maning was not disarming but more surprising and made him all the more intriguing. Ember couldn't remember if she had ever met any male with no mane (or even a female with a mane) so this was pleasant. Before she had a chance to shrug her shoulders at his comment, another shortly arrived.

@Mircea addressing that they should just give it to the lady. Was that me? It must be, since she was the only "lady" around but why give it to her? She was but a stranger to them. If you want it, its yours. Though, she did wonder why she felt the way she felt just because someone was being generous and extending a gift to her. Being given gifts hadn't exactly been a prominent gesture for the entirety of her life so that was a new experience.

Next was a tiger, a striped gray male and @Alexander ♔ himself. Ember tried to offer him a smile before they set off for the hunt. Ember taking one last opportunity to get a bit more of the rocky scent mixed with debris upon the floor to cover what was left of anything special. Ember was going to be a part of the territory, and certainly not the predator come to take a creature's life. Nope. So as she rolled herself around very quickly, pressing against the nearest wall she began her hunt.

Once the beast had fallen, she gave plenty of time for others to take. Spectating their hunger and greed first-hand and getting a feel for how these hunts typically went within a pride. Trying her best to understand the routine and when they began to haul it back to the cache, she followed but did not allow anyone to get even the slightest hint that she was new to this. Appearing as though it was something she had done time and time again before setting off back to the borders.

Spending the next hour pacing down the Hollow's borders and keeping her eyes peeled upon the horizon while her brain kept to thinking about the hunt. Occasionally taking a gentle sniff of the air and finding nothing, but determined to at least finish the route so that she could continue on her day knowing she had done something more. At least walking the pride borders gave her some quiet to think. exit ember
