In his journey when he had to run, well limp, away from the Valley he had managed to heal enough to walk better. His elbow still ached when it was particularly damp in the air or when he laid on it funny. The teen was observing the stars above him, he was very much alone but looking up at the sky made him feel less so. Stuck to the beginnings of his mane were feathers of various beautiful colors, he had met a lioness in his travels that had decided a gentle soul needed the colors added to his otherwise dull pelt to reflect that. She was weird but nice, however she was right he couldn't stay away forever. His heart ached for his family but he was too ashamed to show himself now, after all they had done for him he had panicked and gotten himself lost! shameful. Castus' head tilted slightly to the left watching bats fly past the moonlight and felt a sense of calm.

xThe cool caves were a comfort. Unlike the world outside things didn't change too much in here and sometimes it was a relief to wake up from a nap knowing exactly what to expect. The same temperature, the same squeak of bats down further tunnels. So when a unique aroma hit her nose as she regained consciousness from a delightful nap it hit her like a ton of bricks. It was different; new; and worth investigating if only to catch a peak.

When she found Castus she rounded a corner and flicked her duel tail in opposite directions while lips parted to speak and catch his attention if she could. "Weird looking bird you are-" Vysemala commented on the feathers decorating the youthful lad's canvas. A paw lifted from the ground and waved about indicating all of this stuff here on you. But, despite it all Vysemala also did not question why- if it made the kid happy then more power to him and she'd certainly see stranger things in the world before. But it painted an interesting picture and one that held her attention and captivated her as she day dreamed- what was this feral looking bird lion doing in a cave watching the bats?

Words pulled him from his trance though he simply lulled his head to face her, his face a blank state and his green eyes seemed a bit faded. He was unfazed. Though when he seemed to focus on her for a bit there was a light that flicked behind his eyes, curiosity and interest. He was still there. ”Chirp chirp brrrt" he answered imitating some of the birds he enjoyed the company of. Castus had zero idea how entirely creepy that entire exchange may have appeared, but he did let a smile flicker on his lips if only briefly. ”if only I could fly too,” he lifted his better arm and made a half hearted flap with it. ”What are those?” he asked her suddenly though his voice never changed its low calmness, but he was gesturing with his chin to the bats. They weren’t birds exactly but maybe she would know?

x"Sounds like a bird-" Her blue sapphire eyes had widened and lit up in surprise at the trills and tweets that left his lips. Her smile however was laid bare for all around to see indicating an enjoyment in his reaction. "Looks like a bird-" As already established. "-I must be in the company of a bird. Surprised you can't fly, maybe you're an ostrich?" The brown woman cloaked in shadows took a few bounding leaps to close the rest of the distance between herselfs and the younger male. Her posture upright, calmed as she landed near him and settled herself comfortably to her belly near this strange and fun company she had found here in the caves.

She looked away from him and Vysemala caught flickering shadows overhead; hard to discern save the few times one came close enough to either the lion's eyes or out of the deepest darkest of the shadows up there on the ceiling. "Those are bats boy. Leathery wings, look more like rats than anything else that flies." It was hard to explain just what a bat was except in what it wasn't. It wasn't a bird, it wasn't an insect and yet it took to the air with such ease as the rest of the things that were more normally seen buzzing off the ground.

Was he a bird? How many poppyseeds had he consumed that he may have actually forgot his own species. A look of confusion etched across his face while he lifted his arm again and flapped it feebly. Then she mentioned an ostrich, oh the big screeching ones. ”… Or maybe I’m still healing a broken wing" he murmured positively. Shrugging his shoulders he turned to watch her climb down to come beside him. ”Bats boy?” he repeated stupidly, then it clicked and he give a low grunt of ‘oh'.




”Are they vicious?” he asked her in a quiet small voice looking up again, and if she thought he may be afraid well she was way off her mark. Sometimes it was hard to keep vicious small creatures, not impossible  Just difficult.

xA bird lion boy with a broken wing was as likely as one who was an ostrich. She humored Castus and angled herself, leaning so she could take a better look at both the feathers in his mane and both of his forelimbs. "Eh, maybe you'll fly someday. Certainly something I'd like to see." Chalk up one more thing to the crazy list and collection of things she'd never see again- flying lions.

"Don't think so, never seen them bother anything but each other." As if on cue a pair began to chitter and make shrill noises as one tried to rip bits of dragonfly and bug from the other's mouth. The movements were all fast paced and coupled with the piercing sound it was over nearly as fast as it had began and Vysemala watched as the two flew off in opposite directions with no idea which came out the victor with a meal. "Don't look up with your mouth open by the way..." She warned mysteriously.

ooc: sorry for the delay!

She would like to see him fly one day? But why would she want to watch? What if he fell on her? ”will you catch me if i fell?” he asked her half serious but he let a smile flicker highlighting his facial features a bit better. ”... what happens when they hurt each other?” he asked concerned, why must they hurt each other? Was the sk y not enough room for all of them? He looked at her with a brow raised confused why would he have his mouth open? He looked up then side stepped away from a sudden drop of guano hitting him in the head. ”...that's gross” he stated with a wrinkle of his lips. Castus started to move a bit unaware he was moving closer to her but it was to get away from the droppings.

x"Sure kid-" Vysemala's offer was off handed, an aside and only true in this illogical fantasy. Reality is she'd be worried about being squished- the lion had youth all over his face but he was already approaching her size. He would pass her up with ease and then catching falling bird lion Castus would be a death sentence surely. "I don't know- maybe they kiss and make up?" There were so many and sometimes flight seemed so frenzied, was there really a way to keep the peace and right wrongs or was it just controlled chaos? Floor wasn't littered with dead bats, were they capable of revenge? Did they care that much? "You got siblings?" She asked as she fathomed the bat's squabbles similar to the bickering of siblings and maybe it was something he could understand.
