Spring had blossomed, with it came a torrent of rains and the melting of snow from the heavy winter. Which both fortunately and unfortunately meant the rivers and streams swelled beyond normal capacity. Ronin would tread carefully along the river that led to the falls, not wanting to slip on the edge of the bank, there was no coming out of that river alive. It was normally a fairly clear river, though fast moving, but now, its bottom could not be seen and its depth was unclear. Currents swirled and churned, frothing white over most of the waters surface. It was dangerous and by the spray that lightly touched him he could tell it was still ice cold.

The roar ahead told him the falls were near, he finally started to slow, walking all the way to the edge to peer down where water quite literally spewed over, gushing over the brim and crashing down below. Thunderous, it vibrated his entire body with its mighty and never ending roar. It was there that Ronin would sit, letting the sound drown out everything- even his thoughts. For that moment, the warmonger was at peace.

With how the Brook often was in springtime, she was well versed in avoiding the rushing water of a fast-flowing river or stream in early spring. She knew the snow melting off the mountains caused the rivers to overflow their banks and move faster than normal. It was just how it was. But for one who hadn't grown up around such things, she could understand them avoiding it entirely. The Brook, however, thankfully didn't have its namesake brook flowing this fast. It was safer for the cubs that it didn't flow as quickly as this river seemed to be doing.

Her eyes flickered to a dark brown form that was vaguely familiar. She had run into this lion before, but she couldn't recall where at the moment. But she knew that the last time she had scented him, he had carried the scent of the Mire. Now? Now he carried the scent of Ghyslaine's pride. Interesting. She would stay a careful distance away, not wanting to intrude on the stranger's thoughts or space at all. She knew she didn't like her space interrupted so she figured she would give him his space as well.

He would continue to sit and not think. He was content to just…be. It was nice to not have emotions and thoughts clashing with one another, do this no do that…feel this way, but feel that way. It was exhausting. The Spring time air blending with the greenery and moisture of the falls… It was all so…clean in comparison to the Mire and much more humid than the Plains- though he didn’t particularly hate the dry air there. He just…seemed to enjoy this more. He would have been content to enjoy it even longer, but as he sat there a feeling would creep over him. The feeling of being watched would have the fur along his back bristling, instinct urging him to shift from his relaxed position to stand and turn around, still careful of the slippery ground.

Mismatched gaze would quickly find the dark brown pelt of a lioness, nostrils flared to bring in her scent and it too was familiar, but he could not place it. Brow furrowed as he stepped closer, away from the edge and danger and closer to the lioness- a danger he was well acquainted with judging by the scars on his face and body. I know you…but I can’t place you. What’s your name? He would speak, vocals loud enough to be heard by her over the roar of the river and falls, but not by any others that would be around them. Maybe she would know how they knew each other.

It would seem he would notice her presence despite her attempts to go unnoticed. The urge to slip back into the bushes and remain unnoticed was strong, especially since she couldn't place where she knew the stranger from at all. A dark ear would flick as he turned to face her, muscles tensing in case he decided to charge in her direction for some reason or another.

But he didn't. And it would seem because he was just as stumped as she was as to where she was familiar from. Cassandra would sit there for a few moments, wracking her brain to try to figure how how they were familiar to each other. And then it hit her. Nearly two years ago now - the Pit. They had fought each other, and he had left wounds that thankfully didn't leave a scar on her neck. She would hold off on revealing that tidbit of information for the moment, preferring to answer the question he had asked of her. "Cassandra Valour-Greyflood. And your name?" She asked, expecting him to reveal his name to her since she had told him her name.

"I... know where I know you from now." Cassandra began, her voice careful as she spoke. She wasn't sure how he would react to where they had first run into each other so long ago now. She had been but a yearling, trying to better her skills to help her family then. She was older now, and could definitely better defend herself and her family than when she was a yearling.

They continued to regard each other, Ronin stopping a respectable distance away, but still within easy earshot- despite the falls. She looked so familiar, but he couldn’t place her, no matter how hard he racked his brain, he couldn’t figure out where he knew her from. Had she been part of the war or uprising? Or had he met her on some other field? When the woman spoke, he would nod, a flicker of recognition glinting in his eyes at her name. Ghyslaine had spoke of Cassandra. Ronin Svend…Its a pleasure to meet you, Cassandra. It was nice to put a face to the name. The warmonger hadn’t been there during the challenge, he had already left to retrieve his family.

Ears would twitch as she mentioned she knew how she knew him. His head would tilt, waiting for her to continue, but she did not. After a moment he would speak. Care to enlighten me? He asked, not yet ready to relax around the woman- not when she could be a potential rival or enemy- though he hoped not.

It was odd, running into a lion who at one point had been an enemy of her family. Was he still an enemy now? Or was he more neutral? When they'd fought in the pit they had been on separate sides of tensions. Now? Now she wasn't quite sure... A nod would be given to the lion as he introduced himself as well, though when they'd encountered each other before, they had not exchanged names or anything of the sort.

"We battled once - in the Pit. The way you spoke to me rather pissed me off." Cassandra began, but despite the tension in her frame her voice held no ill-will in it. "And if I remember right, you got your butt kicked by a yearling." A soft chuckle would escape her at her last statement, still amused that she had beaten a full grown lion when she was only a yearling. Must be that Greyflood blood flowing through her veins.
