she wanted to give back.

in some small way, she wanted to make sure it was perfect too. her paws worked tirelessly to gather and hunt by herself, though she knew... she'd need to ask for help eventually. first she collected the flowers, making sure each garland had an array of colors. she'd present each one to a member of the pride who attended. next, she stored the prey she managed to catch in her den. away from prying eyes. she hoped to get this little event done before the meat spoiled.

it was nearly dusk by the time she had gathered everything. Willoughby sighed, taking a spot outside of her den. her paws continued to work the garlands, making anyone assume she was just doing busy work. when someone did approach, she looked up. "oh, hello there" she greets them, bags under her eyes and a stifled yawn. she wondered what they wanted, but she also wondered if they'd help her... without spoiling the surprise. she didn't even tell Erevu or Jewel yet.

He had been out on another one of his excursions, when he'd seen the- uh... Girlfriend? Of Erevu's lingering outside her den, working on something interesting-looking. Kyon eyed the garland in his pride-mate's paws, one yellow eye and one blue eye bright with wonder... Curiosity pulled him in to be rather nosy, but in as polite a way as he could be still in his youthful innocence.

"Miss... uhhh... Bee! Whatcha doing?" He mewed, but his greeting smile quickly turned into that of concern, seeing the bags under her eyes paired with her stifled yawn. "Woah, you look like you need some sleep!" He blurted out, not realizing how that probably come off. He, of course, wasn't meaning to be rude about her appearance in any facet, he was simply concerned! As a future medic of the pride, it was his job to be concerned.

"hello, Bright Eyes" she smiles at him despite her weariness. she hadn't been formally introduced to the cub, but she knew he was part of Jewel's brood. Little Devil and Bright Heart already told her about the other children. "yes, I'm Bee" she chuckles fondly at him "I was... well, can you keep a secret?"

he voices worry though. she smiles kindly. what a thoughtful young boy. "yes, I suppose I do... I have been up late" she confesses to the boy "I'm trying to do something nice for the Cove. something that'll make everyone happy. that's my secret, really." but there was more, of course.

The boy gasped, of course he could keep a secret! Oh how fun! His eyes were indeed bright as his nickname as he listened to her explanation of what she had up her nonexistent sleeves. She was planning something for the Cove? How awesome was that? Suddenly he was excited and took a secondary look at the garland she was working on with renewed interest.

"Radical! Oh oh- do you need some help? I promise I'll keep my lips sealed!" He assured, making a motion with his paw in front of his tightened mouth. Poor Bee looked exhausted, and he would be more than happy to help her in making this lovely... Thing she was making! He cocked his head with respect to that budding question. "What exactly is it? O-or am I allowed to know?"

"this is a garland" Willoughby replies patiently, placing a paw on the flowers "it'll hang around the cove, in the shrubs and other foliage" she smiles widely, chuckling "you're free to help, of course." but he did nod, confirming he was good at secrets. she leans in toward the young little thing, her voice lowering as she glances around.

"I'm going to throw a party" the woman admits "so I need some decorations, some food, nice smelling herbs and flowers..." she trails off, listing all the things she did need for the bash "it's to thank the pride for taking me in, and celebrating summer, y'know? or rather, the end of it."

ah, summer went by so fast. she was almost sad about it, but then again there was autumn to look forward to. "I haven't talked to your mother about it yet - so I wanted to prepare first. let her know I can handle it?"

The boy leeeaaannns in as she does, ears comically forward to hone in on this super secret conversation. A party! He couldn't help but grin as she described it, it sounded really fun. Good food, nice-smelling herbs? DING! Now that's an idea right there!

"Oh! I can find you some good herbs. I'll be super secret about it too! Uh, maybe some lavender, sage..." He muttered as he trailed off the thought, bringing his paw up to count the number of herbs he could think of on one paw. Though he was drawn back by her saying that his mother didn't know about this yet.

Well surely that was okay! It would be a good surprise! ...Right? Yes of course what was he thinking. Moving on to continue his prior thought. "I know where there's some really good flowers too, some wild ones close to the food stores. No one will suspect a thing because-" He paused to bring his paw up to his chest, beaming proudly, "I always gather herbs, and I'm good at it."

"great!" she whispers, so not to yell in the poor boy's ears "you can leave them by my den and I'll continue making the garlands" she adds to Bright Eyes "I can teach you how to make them too - and we can hang them together." and if she talked to Jewel soon, she could make sure the other children got involved. it could be a pride event involving everyone. she even talked to Seraphiel about it before, and if he could help hunt food down.

"oooh?" she wondered if Bright Eyes had aspirations to be the next medic. Erevu had recently been promoted like she had been. "do you want to be a healer when you're older?" she could not help but smile happily at the thought. they did need another healer in the Cove. it was getting so big these days and she enjoyed the new faces passing in and out. it was a great way to meet people, living in close quarters.

"Okay, that sounds awesome!" He exclaimed, quietly though. Very hush hush much secret. But in any case he was very happy to be helping out. Bright prepared himself to twirl and run to go find flowers but he was stopped by Willoughby's continuation. Jeez! Don't forget your manners, Bright! He held his horses and wrapped his paws around his feet.

"I do! Erevu promised to teach me everything and I wanna help others." It was a semi confident, semi nervous answer. Not that he thought the sweet woman would snub her nose up at his dreams. But he was just a boy still, with wide eyes and big aspirations. "The only thing I have to get over really is my uh... Squeamishness."

That was why he'd wanted to become a healer also, but that had backfired on him hadn't it? It wasn't all just poultices and potions he figured out. It was dealing with gore in a practical way. "B-but I'm getting better! Someday it won't even phase me."

she recalled her own squeamishness. at the various challenges and claims... Willoughby could not fault the boy. "to be honest" she smiles "I still get a bit sick looking at blood and that stuff" confession time, was it? "I think maybe it's because you aren't used to it. if you didn't want to be a healer, you wouldn't try so hard to get over it."

she was so very happy to hear Erevu was helping the boy out. teaching him new things and learning with him. with plans for the party happening between her and Bright Eyes, and Seraphiel and a small select others... she felt happiness and pride buzzing in her system. the way others wanted to help her, their community... it warmed her heart.
