With the events of the Scilla Lagoon challenge now behind him, and the lovely events that had transpired when he had assisted in taking his mother to her den. A week later after adjusting some things in his little hideaway in the swamp he was back in the oasis, the cuts across his cheek he had gained from Vesemir were healing and scabbing over.

Quite frankly he had been surprised (and proud) to have Vesemir charge him for his attitude at the Lagoon. At least his little brother wouldn’t be a coward when prompted with taunts.

Arriving back in the oasis he made a pit stop at one of the caches to swipe a zebra leg out to carry with him to a better spot. When he caught a faint whiff of her. And he smiled around the leg turning to follow the scent trail with a low chuckle, why not have some more fun, hm?

Noemi had frustratingly come out of the Lagoon not entirely unscathed, but at least still sporting all of her toes, unlike the bastard from the Brook. Even a week later, she still relished the look on his face when the reality of it hit him. That moment of shock, that flicker of horror. There was a desire to see that same look in someone else.

Speaking of someone else.

Her ears twitched as she sensed a presence approaching behind her. She paused mid-chew, jaw coming to a stop as she turned to glare over her shoulder. There he was, that cocky prick from the lake. Still nameless. Still an asshole (never mind how baseless her feelings were). Her posture shifted immediately, legs coiling beneath her into one ready to spring forward if necessary. She drew her meal in closer to her chest, until she realized he already had one of his own.

"The fuck you want?" she asked, her voice scathing and eyes narrowing into slits. She wasn’t in the mood for his games today and he was just asking for it by coming closer. Come on. Come closer.

The voice made him pause in his walk, yellow eyes narrowing to try and locate her. And there she was a puffing snarling mass of flesh consuming flesh. It took a lot for him to not sneer at her instead he simply raised a eyebrow at her while holding his prize. Carefully he judged the distance between them and would add an extra three feet between time, circling her to face her side more now.

Laying down while he wrapped his forelegs across his meal and released it so it sunk a bit into the sand. “You know I think there is a saying about those with bad tempers often lead to… something… something…” he trailed off with a curious hum while digging into his meal. He gave her distance, he wasn’t insulting her (yet), for her to attack would mean admitting he was right.

Shrugging his shoulders a bit he noted the scratches on her form and would have to make a mental note to kiss the paw of the one who did them. “Can’t we share a meal? I’m being good.” He reassured with a surprisingly warm smile, it almost softened his features. And for a split second his eyes would sell the smile, before he looked down again at his own meal.

She never let him out of her sight, tracking his every move as he circled around, searching for a spot to settle. Her muscles remained tense, but a rumble dissipated in her throat when he finally picked one she deemed an acceptable distance. Far enough to at least lessen the threat, but if she was honest and had it her way, he wouldn’t have stayed at all.

Bad tempers?

"I wouldn’t have a bad temper if I wasn’t currently in the company of the resident asshole," she snapped, tone holding its sharp cut. She lowered her head, pretending to nibble on her meal, but eyes remaining focused on him. "But, do whatever you want." She threw out the words in faux nonchalance. "Not like I’m your mother."

She continued her "nibbling" and watched through lashes as he dug into his. What’s with that smile? It grated her nerves and set off alarms she couldn’t ignore. What kind of game is he playing? She hated the vibes he was giving off, the way he seemed to comfortable with her. Bolstered by his win?

He’s trying to catch me off guard, she thought bitterly.

Oh dear,” he said with a false tone of being insulted, “One meeting with me, and you are giving me such a huge mantle? So generous” he chuckled, and it wasn’t anywhere near as warm and soft as his smile had been.

“I didn’t think I made such a memorable impression,” he added with a smile, digging further into his meal. When she said she wasn’t his mother, he played off a snort as a short cough. “You are far too young to play the part of the witch” he said. It was a backhanded compliment in a way. Because yes she was too young to be his mother, but boy howdy was she starting to sound like her.

“I thought maybe those scratches might be what was giving you such a ill mood. Pain can be quite a mood altering emotion.” He added calmly, licking his maw clean of the blood he had placed there from his meal so far.

"I don't think anything about you is huge," she said, her eyes slowly roving over him with a raised brow, the faintest smirk twitching her lips. Nothing at all, except maybe his ego. "And memorable? Hardly. Still don't even know your name." She wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of knowing he was one of the rare few in the pride she'd even bothered interacting with at all, even if it hadn't been north of neutral. Most others weren't worth her time—he barely was.

Feigning surprise, she cocked her head. "Oh? Are you a medic now?" Her words dripped with sarcasm. As if he knew what I did to receive these.Her wounds were none of his concern and he had no idea the damage she'd inflicted on the one who gave them to her in retaliation. The thought of him thinking he was helping at all by pointing out the possible cause of her temper was laughable. She could just as well do the same to him if he kept pushing.

She leaned forward slightly. Her attention had fully left her meal now and was held solely on him, wondering if it would help that mug of his to have a few well-placed scratches. Might shut him up too.

Clicking his tongue in disapproval at her attempt to provoke him. “You are a bit too late with that one,” he rolled his eyes. A beating from Narsil had been a quick correction for his attitude about how small he was. Now it was annoying sure but it wasn’t a hair trigger anymore. Then a wicked sneer would curl at his lips, his eyes flashing a bit “oh well, you were too busy munching on sand to learn it last time” he commented with a low chuckle. It had amused him the way he had made her choke on the sand beneath their feet.

A casual shrug of his shoulders was given at her comment. “Not anymore than you are at being creative” he said dryly, maybe she was in too much discomfort to give him proper banter? A bored look crossed his facial features noting how she was curling her body. “Man you miss the taste of sand that much?” he commented with a mocking grin curling at his maw, he would adjust his posture to leap away if she charged. “I can give you a mouthful again if you want?” he taunted with a chuckle.

It was rare that someone could withstand her venom and remain unfazed. Even rarer to find someone seemingly so smug, self-assured, and, most infuriating, quick with mocking comebacks. Every insult was hurled right back in her face, and it grated her, burning hotter and hotter as the exchange carried on. She wanted to get under his skin, not the other way around.

His taunts were more pointed, quickly dredging up their last altercation and the associated loss. A low hiss slipped from between clenched teeth. He was enjoying this far too much—enjoying the thought of her loss—and it sent her blood into a boil. There was no way she was leaving there now without something more to remember her by. She wasn’t about to lose a second time.

Patience having reached its end, she abandoned her meal and rose to her feet, slowly squaring up to him and stepping closer. "I think," she began, aching to rip that smirk from his lips, "it’s your turn to sample the fine grains this place has to offer, don’t you?"

While his facial features remained rather stoic aside from the sneer on his maw, he was practically giddy to have her so eager to come up to the metaphorical carving stone. Yellow eyes were alight akin to small fires in the darkness, and he found himself chuckling. But there was no warmth behind the rolling sounds that left his vocal cords. Just a cold amusement.

“You must be a starving to want to hit the sand again so quickly”;he responded coolly. But he adjusted his posture to match hers his was more of a brace for impact type of posture. Pompeii would play the part of the gentleman he never said he was. “Come give me a kiss darling” he said clicking his tongue at her tauntingly with a wink of one of his yellow eyes.

He was enjoying this too much. Laughing. Insulting. Mocking. Every damn word was a reminder of why she'd attacked him in the first place, why she wasn't about to hold back now. She was done, so done. If she never saw him again after this, she'd be better off.

"Didn't think you'd want a kiss from someone with such atrocious breath," she snarked, her words clipped in anger. A little reminder of why they'd exchanged blows the last time. "But who am I to deny your wishes when they may so clearly give me what I want as well."

Her eyes darkened beneath furrowed brows. Your blood splashed beautifully on the ground.

She sprung forward and reached up with claws extended to try and seize his muzzle between both paws and snap at his nose. Her ears swept back and eyes squinted tightly, though she was still stupidly vulnerable aiming so close to his own teeth so soon. Far too eager to feel the breaking of skin. Far too fueled by spite and recklessness.
