an insatiable hunger had taken hold - she wanted meat, hot, fresh. the stores were... fine. they were fine. but the ice had chilled them and gnawing on frozen flesh rolled the pits of her stomach and the nausea that plagued her would not relent, except for the idea of something clean and just hunted.

she yielded in the face of it.

at night, elodie had thrown herself from her bed, determined in a way she had seldom been before. she paced through the frost-glittering grasses, the moon hung heavy in the blackened navy skies above, and called softly for lorien - for whoever else was awake and hungry, or even just bored - as she lifted her nose to the wind, taking a moment's pause to catch the scent of their unwitting prey, undoubtedly out grazing somewhere in the open plains.

She was cold and restless. She had been drinking in bad dreams as of late. Her emotions sad as she missed her mate. Not just Kireena but Zoticus as well. Being in Amaryllis she missed them. Missed Laurel and Xystos too. All of her children that were missing. It made her heart ache. She did have her three cubs she shared with Kireena but that didn’t mean she didn’t miss any of her others.

Not being able to shake the feelings she stood up and looked at her sleeping children. Softly kissing each one before she started walking. Trying to clear her head she spotted @Elodie hunting and smiled before falling in place to help her. It was a good destruction.

It was late, but that did not curb Ilarion's hunger. A trip to the cache had been on the cards, but on his evening wanderings he would find something far more satisfying. Being old did not give him the excuse of being lazy - especially not with this new promotion sitting squarely on his shoulders. And so he would follow Elodie - her scent, and her call - until he caught up with her, and another woman that he did not recognise. A low chuff was offered to the pair, before he sidestepped, creating a little distance between himself and the lionesses now that they knew he was there to help. Best to fall back and maintain a defensive position, so that the smaller and quicker cats could drive the kudu to him. Or, at least, that's how he assumed the plan would go. It often did, when his big ass was involved.

despite being gone for such a long period of time, aspen finds he's been settling into the pride life pretty well. he's begun to settle into a little routine and aspen has grown to expect a call to hunt at least every few weeks. it was so different than the life he has lived on his great adventure. where working together with another was quite a rare occasion. no schedule, no help. just him and his growling tummy.

a lazy lope brings him to the rest of the group. already, duckie and another woman have begun to corral a huge kudu towards ilarion. it seemed he had arrived just in time. aspen settles not far away from ilarion, ready and eager to help the huge man bring the animal down. it was just a matter of waiting for it to get close enough now.

As the prey fell she panted happily. They had been able to work as a team and get hung done without too much struggle or stress. Nodding her head to @Elodie she smiled. "Well done leading the hunt." Cooing she looked at @Ilarion and @Aspen. "You two as well good hunt." Her voice was soft like a proud mother which might seem odd to the three that probably didn’t even know who she was. "Oh I am Arjana. Arjana Huntsong." Introducing herself as she looked at the Kudu. Taking a small bit of it. Her share but not all of it as that would be rude. Nodding once more she took her share and left to go home and feed her cubs.

for all their hard work, the hunt seems to go exceptionally well, with the kudu going down before them not long after aspen joins in on the hunt. it's one of the first that he's completed as a yearling, so obviously he meets his pridemates' gaze with all the pride of a successful young man. "good hunt!" he calls out towards arjana's retreating back, belatedly realizing that the woman had spoken to him as well. at least someone thought he was being helpful!

with a brief grin to the rest of the lorien members, aspen turns towards the cache, intent on bringing a good chunk of the kudu back there for proper storage. it would be no good if they left it out in the open, where a hyena or a leopard could sneak in and steal it when they weren't looking.
