The sun was beginnin' to dip down for the night, shades of reds, yellows and oranges meshin' with one another to create a darkened sky that was bein' followed by the darkness of night. A light snowfall had begun while Lucien had been explorin' the grove, leavin' a thin blanket of white below his paws. The chill of it would cause for an involuntary shiver to grip his body every now and again, and he knew of one thing that would help keep him warm: a hunt. He would allow for his nose to now guide him, followin' a well worn path that intertwined with others throughout the grove, and while he went about his way on searchin' by smell of somethin' to eat he would let out a call to those that may have been lurkin' around, a call to see if they would like to join him. Once the call had been released, golden eyes would shift around to observe his surroundin's, slippin' downward to look at the ground and to see if he could spot any prey tracks upon the fresh fallen snow.

Again and again their paths crossed. Nephthys was finding him rather fine company, especially now that she recognized him from the summit meeting. He'd been the Lorien sovereign when he'd needed to teach that bratty yearling a lesson, she recalled, though the fight itself hadn't been her main focus. She recalled watching it from the corner of her eye, yes, but mostly she was fixated on making sure Alaric and Ronin didn't kill each other. Besides, a full grown man against a child with a big mouth? It was embarrassing for the girl, but evidently someone needed to discipline her. Just a shame it was in public because Nephthys would never have recovered from the embarrassment of it all if she had been on the receiving end. Oh well.

Quitting is not an option

Snow. Small fluffy crystals of frozen water fell from the sky, not that the Yu was aware they were crystals but she did find them pretty. If not for the fact she felt like her toes were gonna freeze off in this cold weather. She'd rather be spending her time curled up in a sheltered spot trying to stay warm. But her belly rumbled and so here she was stalking through the snow her breath white in the cold afternoon air.

Though it was the call of another lion, a familiar yet unrecognized tone that drew her towards the hunting party. Familiar frames, from an earlier hunt, came into view against the stark white world and the Yu grinned from ear to ear as she approached them. "Something big, I could eat a boulder" the Yu spoke in an amused but very serious tone, in the best joking way possible, her words mostly focused at the maroon-colored lioness. She was indeed hungry and why not challenge the bigger beasts? In all honesty, if they didn't catch something big enough for them all to share. She might just eat rocks to fill her belly... if only to stop the clawing feeling in her gut.

The lioness moved with quiet grace, keeping her body low to the ground and her movements smooth and calculated. Her keen senses were on high alert as she moved through the thick snow-covered grove, scanning the area for any signs of other life. There was a scent of prey that hung heavy in the air as it urged her onward. Her stomach was taunted by the thought of a good meal. However, the cold of her nose had caused it to be slightly harder to pick apart the smells and decipher which it was that she followed.

As she crested a small rise in the landscape, her heart skipped a beat - there, in the distance, she saw movement. Lions. With renewed purpose, the lioness began to move faster, her thoughts turning to the potential new allies she could find among her fellow predators. But she also knew she had to be cautious - all of the unknown could prove dangerous. For now, she remained silent as she approached the small hunting trio that had already formed.

Not that she felt that she had to, Ember went about smothering her Hollow's scent with anything else that she could find. A few leaves coming from the fields and some flowers from the meadow and to top it off she rubbed her sides and backside with one of the older trees within the Grove that she could find. Mutilating whatever scent she had that might trace her back to her new pride. She didn't think they had many enemies, if any, but being a rogue for so long she felt almost inclined to try and keep others guessing.

At least in the Grove, it was a nice distraction from the darkness of what she now called home. The air was crisp and the light was brilliant, even though it was chilly down to her core it still felt nice. Even though there were a few felled logs sitting around, only a fair few of them were beginning to rot and even then it simply added to the beauty of the territory. Not only that, but it would prove challenging obstacles for this hunt that these other lions were hovering around for. To which she supposed she could offer her strength should it be necessary.

She moved silently amongst the snow covered ground, making her way toward a makeshift den she had happened upon not too long ago. Exhaustion was beginning to slowly seep in, making her movements slow and casual. As Artemisia leaped over a fallen tree, the sounds of a familiar voice was calling out yet again for any that were around to join him for a hunt. 'Well wasn't he the busy body. The lioness made her way toward where it had come from, slipping past brush and picking up her pace a bit to help warm up and loosen her muscles.

Maroon eyes land upon the several that were already gathered, familiar from a last hunt the man had called not too long ago. "Evening all," her voice would purr out in a friendly greeting, bobbed tail flicking a few times as she settled into a crouch.

The cold is not as much of a nuisance as it could be for the dappled beast traipsing his way through the unsuspecting ferns that have no hope of blocking the beast's path. His fur is thick enough to render the winter's chill to little more than a mild inconvenience - or so he'd thought at first. The snow scattered across the earth is slowly dampening his massive paws with every heavy step he takes, and the icy sensation is quick to sneak in through his wet fur and creep up his limbs.

Irritating, in a word.

But he's intrigued enough by his explorations here to resist the urge to turn back, at least for now. Despite the pale brightness of the snow he traverses through, there is no lack of greenery to be found in this forest. Not in the abundance of pine needles that still adorned these trees, their sharp scent clouding the air, nor in the delicate ferns that tickle his skin as he brushes past. Such strong, persistent plants. Mircea appreciates their endurance.

He's paused to rake his claws down the rough bark of one of the pines, finding satisfaction in the wooden resistance chipping away at broken nail when the call for a hunt reaches his ears.

How very tempting.

The hunt will warm him right back up, he's certain. His toes splay wide atop the snow as he tries lighten his steps, joining the group with a low rumble in half-hearted greeting, inclining his head slightly towards @Ember as he approached her side, recognizing the scent of the caves upon her pelt. He settles into a crouch to wait, calm and still, a patient predator.

Only the tension flexing in his muscles reveals the eagerness he feels for the spill of crimson that awaits.

The Grove was a bit of a push out of her normal range of travel but she had attempted to be following the scent of something out this way. Apparently there were others that had caught its scent too and with a sigh and a flustering of her lips, she moved towards them in an effort to share this hunt and this prey with others. At the very least, she will have done something and pressed her front paws into the snow-covered grass and waited as patiently as one of her caliber could until someone blew the metaphorical horn to proceed. Only then would she use what usefulness she had to help these strangers hunt.

With who knows what kind of true luck, the gathering of lions does well enough to secure the elephant calf. A small but still mighty creature that had little protection thanks to the parents that left it behind. Maybe the child had gone an excursion unbeknownst to mother but either way, it hadn't been very smart. At least it no longer had to worry about being lost or having a shit parent; that much Zelda could be happy about. Snagging a little snack for her troubles before letting the others work out who got what. That was a deliberation that she didn't feel inclined to participate in. As dramatic as that might be. exit zelda
