He was told to challenge for a rank, for a position of power, and so here Anthonius was.

He'd given it a day- settling into the lands of Andal, creating his own personal den and even exploring the odd terrain some more. Alexander's choice of pride was... odd, but he wasn't one to question him so. He trusted his brother, and thus, would do his own job and start to pull his weight around here. The idea of both improving himself and the pride they resided in sounded well in his mind, and inspired him to reach high in terms of ranks.

With afternoon coming to rest upon the skies, Anthonius trekked to an open area of Andal, before his challenging call rang out- for rank. If no opponent showed, that would be their loss and his gain. He looked forward to a fight however, the eagerness to shed blood thriving through his veins... he hoped his skills weren't too rusty.

Initially, Rainer had not felt particularly driven to rush for one of the shiny titles that the prides here organized themselves by. Not when the Oasis had seemed so terribly barren upon his arrive. Would it really have changed all that much if he had an official title, when he was practically the only one there?

Of course, that was then and now was now. Ryker had been casting some good nets lately, it seemed. Their numbers were growing steadily now, which Rainer doesn't exactly mind. The new faces would doubtlessly save him from his growing boredom. But the challenging summons is a crystal-clear reminder that more lions meant that a certain...pecking order, would simply have to be established.

The Rike has no intention of falling short within it.

And so the northern beast ends up being the first to meet the other piebald in his chosen arena, leisurely gait and crooked smile giving away no clues as to what truly churns within his dark depths. Waiting for a fight, are you? He asks rhetorically. Casual, as if his fangs weren't aching to taste the newcomer's blood.

He circles Anthonius in a manner that seems almost lazy, surveying him up and down with an icy gaze just barely hiding the sharpness underneath. He comes to a stop a couple yards in front of the other male, smile widening to show teeth, toes flexing in the sand as the bear so carefully locked away within him longs to charge. Oh, but if he did that, there'd be no fun in revealing that surprise later. I suppose I feel inclined enough to give you one. He states instead in false contemplation, as if he doesn't so strongly desire to shove that pale muzzle into the sand. His thickly maned head would lower as he subtly set his defenses in place. Come. Let's see who is more deserving of the rank.

Loneliness is foreign as an opponent arrives to the summoning call of Anthonius. Blue eyes swiftly latch to his large frame, observing him and his appearance as he makes way to where the Savage stood. He does not allow himself to be circled, however, at least not without Anthonius following his move- paws taking him from outside of where the brute tried to circle him, and the druid narrowing his gaze at him. Anthonius says nothing, for their actions would play out well enough- and without word does he take imitative and lurch his frame forward towards the brute, paws extending as they aim to latch at his sides, all while his jaws splay in hopes of finding purchase at his shoulder. He was more excited to see how well his battle skills were holding up after so long.

A smirk crosses his dark lips as the other warily follows his circling movements, two beasts sizing each other up in equal measure. What precisely does the spotted male see, he wonders, when looking upon Rainer's relaxed features? Someone irritating but unthreatening? Or does a hint of cruel cunning shine through?

The other isn't much of a conversationalist it seems, his larger frame surging across the sand to answer the Rike's beckoning unceremoniously. So very unimaginative, but Rainer can work with that, a rumble of laughter spilling from his lips.

The Savage's intentions toward his shoulder are clear enough - Rainer will let him have his target. He surges forward as the other's paws lifted to wrap around him, leading with his left shoulder with the intention of forcefully slamming it right against Anthonius's open jaws. His skin would sting from lacerations either way, but the Rike could accept it so long as his opponent hurt. Was the taste of his flesh worth the risk of a cracked tooth?

Oh, but how cruel would it be of him to leave such a warm embrace unreciprocated? His right forepaw would lash out and upwards, lengthy claws extending in an attempt to sink into the vulnerable skin of Anthonius's left elbow and pull, fully intending to draw blood.

It didn't matter if Rainer was a man of the mountains or the desert. There was no gentleness to be found in either.

The slam to his jaws was more unexpected than Anthonius' would of thought. Pain flared through the area, and he was swift to retract his bite, a low growl rumbling from his chest as he felt the brute's forepaw slash at his elbow, leaving large lacerations in their wake. Blood spilled from his frame, and Anthonius attempted to dig his back claws into the sand to keep him more rooted in place, jaws splaying again as he then attempted to try and bite at the other's face; with blood drawn he was ready to dance, and he sure hoped others were gathering to witness these events before them all.

The echoing call drew a pleased smirk to his face, and Ryker left off his patrol to turn his path inward toward the sound. There was no real rush to his pace; if the challenger went unanswered, he'd simply test him himself. Upon arriving, though, he found a fight already in progress between a new recruit and one of the first.

Settling to sit a safe distance away, he schooled his expression into a blank mask, sharp eyes tracking each move. Ryker wouldn't claim to be the best warrior in the lands - at least not with a straight face - but he liked to think he'd learned a few things over the years. And, anyway, with so many positions open it was very likely neither man would walk away from this without something to show for it. Effort was almost as important as ability.

The sting of sharp fangs parting his heavy fur to scrape at the skin of his shoulder is a small annoyance, soon soothed by the pained and irritated growl that followed the prompt removal of the other brute’s jaws. Rainer rather hopes that the spotted beast will feel that impact for days to come, reminded of it every time he tries to chew. Cruel satisfaction curls in his chest as the smell of blood permeating the air accompanies the sensation of his own claws raking through skin. How thrilling.

Even more so when the spilled blood inspires his opponent to more vicious heights, glittering fangs snapping towards Rainer’s face in the blink of an eye, forcing the Rike to turn his head away instinctively. A snarl curls his lips as sharp pain pierces his left cheek, thin skin easily giving way to crushing pressure. But he can hardly think to pull himself away from the burn of it now, caught between both Anthonius’s large paws and teeth.

So Rainer doubles down, hindlegs shoving forcefully into the sand in a widened stance as he surged upward in an attempt to collide against his opponent’s chest with his own, and maybe unbalance the brute. His right forepaw would abandon the bloodied elbow to rise harder, seeking to club the other male across the face with long, unsheathed claws in the vague hopes of dislodging the fangs in his cheek.

Mostly, he just wishes to inflict pain.

He felt his fangs snag at the cheek of his opponent, the skin tearing under his hold and the Savage feels an internal surge of victory at this feat. He wanted the brute to bleed just as much as he was. His balance wavers slightly when the male shoves into his chest, and Anthonius has to swiftly focus on repositioning his feet over the throbbing pain at his chest, where no doubt a bruise would form. Growling, he attempts to lift one of his paws from the male, and aims to swipe down at his side in both an attempt to leave damage. He feels the swat to his face, and blood drips from where claws met his skin. Ears pinning back, Anthonius aims to shove his own weight forward to meet him, and if anything, to try and throw him off balance this time.

Few things are as effective at awakening the Rike from his inner lethargy as this – the sound and feel of tearing flesh, both that of his brutish opponent and his very own, bright red staining the pure white of his bitten cheek, of the paw he’d used to strike out with. The picture of innocence marred by brilliant streaks of violence, a hint of the enraged beast he truly is flashing sharply across icy eyes. It’s so difficult to keep the carefree mask, when the bloodshed makes him feel so terribly alive, stripped down to his truest nature.

A adrenalized grin splits his lips despite the pain it adds to his stretching cheek, a rumbling growl rumbling through his chest even as it reverberated from the impact of their bruising collision, exhilarated by the way the Savage male staggered. Rainer would use the opportunity to attempt to tear his head away from those sharp fangs, his own jaws gaping wide to try to snap at Anthonius’s face in turn. Yet the Rike’s perceived advantage is short-lived, as his slightly larger opponent surges forward to shove back against him in full force, pushing the breath from his lungs as his hindlegs quivered, forced to slide backwards through the sand while he shifted to try to keep his own balance.

The feeling of claws slashing down his side is just the cherry on top, scarlet droplets dripping against a grey canvas. Snarling, Rainer would use what power he had left to throw himself away from the tearing claws, very intentionally trying to shove his weight against the forelimb the other brute was still using to hold him with, seeking to bend the pale leg outward in a direction it was never naturally meant to go in. Would it be so wrong for him to secretly hope that he manages to break something?
