Summer was in full swing, its blaring heat warming the red rocks of the bluffs. A far cry from the winter chill that had welcomed his return to the family. More challenges than he could count has risen and fallen, leaders held and lost prides. All of it made his body itch. Itch with the need to sink his own claws into something real. While he had no interest in ruling a pride, he did intend on taking a rank for himself. There was nothing holding him back anymore. With Helah taking the Oasis pride, and members flocking to bolster her ranks. It was time they refilled their own.

Dark paws carried him from his den within the territory, the red dust from the bluffs coating them in their familiar hue. Emerald eyes searched momentarily before heading towards a generally flat expanse of land. He had no intention of falling off the side of the bluffs as previous challengers had and the least amount of obstacles the better. That’s why he liked fighting in the pit, it was simple, easy, here he had to put more thought into it. He just wanted to fight. Dark jaws parted in a summoning for for @Amara, @Louve, and whoever would take up his offer for the challenge. Emerald eyes dance across the bluffs, alert as he slid into his defenses. Ears tucked back against dark brown mane, legs evenly spread apart and tail out for balance, claws unsheathed gripping the red dirt beneath his paws. Tongue flicked idly over ivory teeth, adrenaline thrumming through his veins.

he was a distant relative but he was still dieudonne. faustine thought it would be respectful if she paid @jean-claude a visit. though she had certainly not anticipated to find him here, calling out for mother and grandmother or anyone else. faustine wanted to step into the ring and fight the man, but she knew this fight was not hers. she was by default a princess of the bluffs, which meant a noble would be underneath her and her siblings. no, faustine came to simply watch and study the art of a fight. in a month, she could visit the passage and bring members back to the bluffs. if it meant tearing through the likes of other pride recruiters, royalty and sovereigns included, then she'll do it. for now, it was better to be a spectator. so she sat down and waited, hoping there'll be a good and bloody fight.

Amara's head tilted slightly as the call went up. She wasn't surprised to hear the male calling for a rank. She had hoped that he would step up soon though she did wonder where his brother was hanging out. She hadn't seen him in awhile but wasn't going to allow herself to worry about it to much. The high sovereign rose and made her way to where the male stood. Her granddaughter was there, ready to watch the fight and Amara moved to her side with a bump of her head to @Faustine shoulder. Her golden gaze sweeps over Jean-Claude. There were a few things that reminded her of his sister, less that reminds her of his brother, thankfully. She gave him a slight nod before sitting down with Faustine to see if anyone would step up or not.

He was Dieudonne, she was not. That alone was probably reason enough for her to leave well enough alone, but that had never been her way. Dysnomia was, at least, half-blood related to the family, and in her mind that was close enough. Besides, she had never been one to allow an opportunity for a fight pass her by.

The girl from her joining was there, Faustine, soon enough no longer a child, she would guess. She still gave the girl a respectful nod in deference to her position before she turned her full attention on the man. She had fought much bigger and come out on top, and she hoped this could also be the case.

Her teeth flashed in a silent snarl, stark white against the deep black background of her features, the only warning before she charged, using her momentum to drive her swing as she lifted her left front paw and attempted to smack him on the right side of his face, her claws poised and ready.

His call hits her ears in a funny way.

Ambition was not an emotion that lived within her chest; never once did she think about clawing her way up into power. Yet @Jean-Claude did not agree. Dainty paws bring her to where he's challenged, and there is almost disappointment in her chest when she sees that someone else has answered his call. Surprise flits across her features as she settles down to watch, mismatched eyes lingering heavily upon his frame as the battle ensues. Win or lose, she could patch him up afterwards -- should he need it.

As long as he doesn't get too close to the edge...

Faustine is the first to show and he can’t say he was surprised. The almost yearling was a familiar and welcome face around the pride. She exemplified the next generation of Dieudonné. Giving her a light dip of his head in acknowledgment and respect of her title as she took her seat to wait and watch. He would make sure to put on a good show for her, perhaps she might take something from the fight. His attention would then move from her to their Queen as she made her appearance, he hoped to prove himself worthy of the rank. He had spent most of his time familiarizing himself with Amaryllis supporting her and their family. He sought to provide more support within the pride with his summons, but he also sought the rank for the protection he could provide for their members as well.

Emerald eyes seek to catch Faolán’s mismatched gaze before they are quickly torn away towards the fast approaching lioness. Paying for the momentary distraction as the dark lioness’ claws come quick and fast towards his face. Her claws slice and hook into his cheek, the blood already welling at the surface. A snarl of frustration rips from bared teeth and he lunges towards her attempting to sink his teeth into the meaty part of her own right cheek and attempting to drive his left shoulder into her chest. Trying to force her to release the hold she has on his face.

A call for a position that he himself had held not too long ago. He saw it as no loss, of course, since the duties of parenthood had drove the ghoul into a more family-focused life. However, now that the children were no longer fragile babes, Apollinaire felt the familiar pull of society and desire for power tug onto his sleeve like a child.

One would think that his current position, the Matriarch and Queen's husband, would be enough to satiate this incessant desire. However, one would be mistaken. The man was as power-hungry as he was hungry for flesh, and the unnerving thought of having another man take a high title was... unpleasant, to say the least. Like an itch he couldn't quite scratch. Not that it mattered... but it did.

He arrives already to witness this man of unknown origins battle a dark woman. He slips beside his daughter @Faustine who stands by @Amara with a respectful bow (deep and overly dramatic, as was hnis fashion) to each of the women. "Une nouvelle recrue pleine d'espoir dans nos rangs?" "A hopeful new addition to our ranks?" he muses, putting up a pleased facade but secretly prodding for information on @Jean-Claude.

A low chuckle left her at his expression of anger towards her. Yeah, her family had always been good at pissing others off, whether you called her Casimir or Valentine. Or neither, as she was slowly leaning into now. What use did she have for family? Save for Xerxes, but he too seemed to have disappeared again. She was used to such things from him, though, and had no doubt that he would return eventually, and this time would know where to find her.

His teeth sank into her cheek, leaving furrows that only worsened as she was pushed back slightly by him ramming into her. She huffed as she reached up with her left paw, attempting to sink her claws into his mane around his ear, thinking it might be tender there. She also attempted to whip her head to the right, thinking perhaps she could get him to let go, or else make it uncomfortable for him.

louve couldn't quite wrangle just how that call made her feel. it was her husbands position, in her mind, and to see somebody else reach out to take it... rankled. there was no reason for it to sit empty any longer, she knew; @Apollinaire had stepped down to focus his attentions on their children.

still when she comes she sidles up beside him and huffs before she settles down in to a sit. "il est dieudonné," he is dieudonne and this should placate her as much as it did her husband, feeding him the information he sought. she gives nothing else, though, leaving anything more to @Amara to fill in.

"regarder de près," watch closely she reminds dear @Faustine, always encouraging her children to learn from the fights of others.

Amara looks at the dark lioness who answers the call with no words and narrows her gaze slightly. There were mixed feelings with her but Amara was aware that the lioness wouldn't be here if she had somewhere else to be. In Amara's mind, she had only come here because the thought of her brother's family was all she had left. Amara wasn't sure if she would trust her enough to allow her to have such a spot but it did mean something that she was willing to try.

Amara looked to Faolán and noticed the look that was passed between her and Jean-Claude. Was something happening there? She didn't know their connection or how they might know each other so beyond a glance, she gave it no more thought as she looked to her son-in-law. Her golden gaze watched him close to see if the fact that his old rank was being fought over was an issue for him. Did you want it back or would you like lead fighter back? Amara would give him what he wanted. The outcome of this fight didn't matter when it came to keeping the male content, if that was even possible.

As her lead fighter, he would do more since bringing in new members wasn't really his thing. At least she didn't think it was. Louve's arrival and telling who Jean-Claude was made it clear that Apollinaire wasn't fully aware who the male is. Vermier's brother.* Ambro's brother, her mind whispered to her as she looked back to him. Had his own cubs arrived here with him, would they have looked to take what their Aunt had once held? Would they feel that the spot that Louve now held was their own? Amara mentally shook the thought out as she watched the fight.
