The honed ferocity of the cannibal king was unlike many of Ava’s previous opponents. Her eyes flung wide with shock as his chest connected with hers, threatening to steal the breath from her throat and causing a sprawling pain to spread across her plush breast. His jaw narrowly escaped her mark, affording her a bite to his right jawline and no more, but Ava would take whatever she could get. But with no grip established, her fangs undoubtedly could not stop his own assault as he wrenched into the right side of her neck, his teeth finding brutal purchase on the soft flesh and clenching down, deep punctures inciting white-hot pain.

Ava inhaled sharply, and reallocating her weight onto three grounded limbs instead, aimed to lift her right paw and swing it up toward the left side of his face, hoping to bear her unsheathed claws down into the crook just below his left ear and downward in a desperate attempt to claw him away.

His curled lips winced further in pain as the recoil from their collision recalled so many more injuries, and added more light bruising on top of that. His jaws successfully sank into the right side of her neck. Given such an advantageous hold, he decided to try to keep it while seeking its full advantage. He kept the rest of his limbs grounded, his frame still low, and attempted to yank her sideways to her right. He had no defense against her paw save for his natively tucked ears and narrowed eyes. He snarled within his throat as deep lacerations formed downward from below his left ear. The blood felt like sudden bubbles of heat.

She cried out at the brutal tug and pull of his teeth as they sunk deeper into her neck and wrenched her to the right, deepening his punctures, disrupting her trailing claw on his ear and causing her paw to return to the ground in order to maintain her balance. His hold on her neck gave her little way to twist or turn, and thus Avaneira resorted instead to pushing into his grip, hoping to thrust her weight into her front in the same direction her pulled her, and attempt to knock her head and neck further into his grip. With each pained exhale, Avaneira could feel their battle coming to its peak, and knew that these final moments mattered now more than ever.

She cried like a gazelle and she moved like one too. Not like the literal animal, but like the type of lion he described as gazelle. Fleeting, bleating, easily proven weak after all their cries and bluffs. A deeper, longer growl formed in his throat, bubbled snarls not given conscious voice. She shoved back against his grip - partly expected, from a frenzied animal, but he remembered the deep pain and humiliation of lip injuries and he slightly unhinged his grip to avoid more than light bruising to his gums. In place of this advantage he swiftly heft his left paw and aimed to swing it, claws unsheathed, at her right elbow. The extent of his previous injuries were bearing on him and he hoped to display his dominance quickly.

It is no secret unto who's side that the lilac foot settles upon. His loyalty never lied within the Dieudonné - not even since day one when even the consideration of his alliances were posed within this pits of despair. For that - he is thankful. What would've become of him if he had chosen to fall in toe within the recoil of the crumbling empire? He didn't want to know...

The challenger falls, and a sick satisfaction coils upon the tips of the lilacs lips as Vermier is forced to yield in the light of the cove's queen. She has won what she has come for, and then some - his presence is no longer needed. So - the brute would heed the words of the dawdling healer. Dissipating to the winds within a matter of mere seconds, only to trail a bit further ahead to ensure their safe escort from the prides lands.

The fight concluded, leaving Avaneira the breathless victor; though, she could not help but feel the familiar sting of a battle she would not have won had it gone on any longer than it had. @Vermier was a seasoned opponent, and Avaneira would have been far worse off had he been his full strength, but still had she freed Rue from the shackles of the Bluffs and held her promise to Zoticus true. Wordlessly did she nod toward Sole and Rue, before turning, and vanishing deeper into the throng of Amaryllis. Whether Rue decided to stay under her protection in the Cove or find safety elsewhere, Avaneira would not fetter her; rather, she beelined straight toward her den, hoping to lick her own wounds.

Exhaustion claimed him, but he would claim it as indifference. He backed off, his skull held low, ears slackened forward from his mane now that the aggressive burst had ended. What was this formless possession that he had lost? At best, a delicious corpse, and at worse a mediocre disappointment preening at his heels. He growled with a huff curling up at the end. He knew her face and her weak points; that was a benefit. His gaze lingered as she retreated, and only once there was nothing more interesting in her posture did he turn himself to limp back along his borders. Maybe more challengers would be more delicious.
