She said something about him and children, something negative. "Eez fun!" he retorted. If she meant he liked eating children, then yes. If she meant he liked acting like a child, then yes. Vermier continued to elect to keep his jaws free because spouting insults was more fun than biting. Or so he told himself. Not questioning, not wanting to question whatever passion within him kept him from biting. Biting was too intimate. Would make this too serious. He remembered last time. His hesitancy to engage and wound. Her proximity sabotaging his reactions. How simply she had disarmed him by licking in his ear. He did not want that again.

He had swiped her and she had been nearly grounded. He saw how her weight wobbled. All mammals carried their pregnancy the same... it attracted his same instincts, the sickly gazelle. Certainly part of him knew she was pregnant, both the part of him that recognized key English words and the savage part of him that saw weighty weaknesses, but he kept his ears glued back anyway but somehow he still heard it. He didn't want her. Didn't want her. Didn't even not want her enough to be that upset about her finding someone else. But it was an insult anyway, wasn't it. If Amara, Cassine, Kieran found out, what about his nephews, if they found out his crush was pregnant with another's - would that loosen their opinion of him? Vermier wanted to be that spectacular darling who attracted women everywhere he went. At the very least, he should make a good scorned lover. Not this slapping to hide his feelings and not even the feelings you'd think he was trying to hide.

"I no want mate!" he snarled back, in the same instigating tone he had already been speaking, the tone that said everything he said was false and he didn't care. A second's pause, half panic and half trying to arrange the stupid words that were English. "No mate like you!" She tried to bite for his right leg and he was tempted to let her, so he could snarl more, but his autonomous trained response wouldn't allow it; even the thought felt wrong. To allow weakness, voluntarily? He jerked his right leg back and downward, feeling moderate lacerations across the front of the elbow joint that didn't bleed enough for him to zone out but also weren't shallow enough to make him feel like a super fast stealthy cannibal predator. He hissed anyway, his head bobbing with retaliation that he held back, and tried to lash out with his left paw aiming to slap across her right cheek again. Slap her away. It had always been a stage romance, why not a stage fight? His heart could not play with sincerity, in either case.

The orange faced lady was a mess of emotions. Her crying had left her open and as she felt his paw smack against her face she pushed herself back and fall to the ground. “ @Vermier .. . you asshole!” She roared in her sobbing. Why had he been so rude? Why? Seriously why? She had liked him, she had respected him, but that respect had slowly drained with how he had acted before during challenges trying to claim others, and in honest she had started to lose interest in him in general after that. Still this whole falling her fat thing? It had pushed her over the edge and him winning this fight had been the nail in the coffin so to speak.

“I hate you. You sir are not beau!” She cried while standing up and running away back towards the Bluffs.

He didn't know whether he had meant to hit that hard. Maybe she was weaker than he thought. Maybe she was easily unbalanced; mostly likely that was it, or she had tripped on an uprising of rock, hidden in the fog. Vermier snarled as she fell back, his paw hanging limp in air for a moment before he slammed it back decisively downward. It didn't matter. He might question to himself why he had targeted her, at what point he had known it was her, and why he had continued to beat up his pregnant diva, but probably not. He felt the questions gather, battering in his brain, why did I do that? but he clamped them down, snarling to himself as much as her. "Lucky I no eat!" She was getting mercy because it was in his power and power felt good and questioning his power was nothing but weakness, so he wouldn't. "You ugly femme!" he shot after her in response to her insult, trading blunt barb for blunt barb. Ugly. She had always been. He let that settle and wanted to think of nothing else, but he found he could not stand wallowing in his triumph and whipped himself away in another direction. He needed to not think.
