It was rough going. The harshness sang to her however. It was a world with a stark contrast to the Lagoon she found temporary residence within. The air was thin, lacking the humidity afforded to the pridelands by the ocean. The earth felt crackly below her paws but solid unlike sand. And grey, dreariness, not often welcome but right now the mere change of scenery provided benefits that outweighed anything else. She thought herself alone, she felt a lack of life and energy here and thusly she felt freed. There was no smothering energy, no watchful eyes she could feel on her. Given the opportunity Siofra took to a jog- running with wind in her face and earth tearing below her paws and in her grasp. She would run until her lungs felt tired and she collapsed perhaps.

already skarde feels at home in the boneyard. the dust becomes his friend, the death around him comforting like a soft quilt by a fire. for a long while he hasn't left, continuing to circle and hunt within these lands as he and ava settle themselves. the pickings are slim, he will admit, but being positioned between three prides can't be bad for business. infiltrating recruitment and stopping wandering lions from joining the prides seems the most secure approach.

however, skarde didn't expect a stranger is his home. ok, well, not officially yet, but soon-to-be! far in the distance, but close enough to see, skarde notices a wildly thin lion padding aimlessly out into the distance. defensiveness prickles over his back and shoulderblades. he lets out a rough, unfriendly roar towards the stranger, padding up quickly before settling back. if he was to rule his own pride, no matter how small of unofficial, cordiality might get him somewhere.

you're in my land, skarde mutters, expression not as aggressive as before but still etched in displeasure. have you just come to pass by? he didn't own this territory - at least, not yet.

His rumbling thuum rattled her soul. She'd become so used to the softer "friendlier" sorts that were drawn to the Lagoon and neighboring prides she'd forgotten what warning and aggression could really sound like. For a small moment her heart rose up, everything in @Skarde's roar told her to beware and it reminded her of her father. She did not slow herself, not at first. She pushed herself through a last few strides and kept up her quick pace- turning it towards the sound of the voice and the scarred lion now approaching her. She rapidly slowed her pace to come and stand at attention before him- his eyes bright, his face dark and annoyed. Hers remained steady, unflinching but with peach eyes cautiously kept glancing around him defensively.

Her clay chin tilted downwards in a nod, shoulders kept low and posture in one that deferred to him as in charge here. On a run yes. She explained in a calmed voice. And maybe part of her hoped for the slight chance she'd still find someone from her family wandering around north of the Hollows... Who are you Lord?

lord? now, wasn't that nice? skarde wants to giggle, raise a paw and curl his claws, give her a soft chuckle of appreciation. just... silliness. because wow: no one's called him lord before. should he bow? should he thank her? {your respect is appreciated,} skarde mutters, finally settling on a balance between not confirming nor denying the formality. the way this woman shriveled away from him... he can tell @Siofra's afraid, and possibly not used to big, strong men guarding territory in this way. nevertheless, she doesn't smell of any familiar pride he's come across - at least, not like caladan cove. not obsidian hollow, either.

{who i am is not of your concern.} giving away his position at this moment certainly felt like social suicide. she might figure out he's not being honest; for now, skarde needs to play his little game. his claws pop out from their cartilage slits, lacing the ground with thin, jagged lines sheathes and exposes them, face expressionless. {have you come here to fight? or to fuck?} oh, he's getting straight to the point.

She would have thought otherwise- knowing whose land this was seemed pointed and important to her. She had generally found lions who owned things liked others to know that. But was a name so important in that? Perhaps not. He had presence enough to be known without being known as @Skarde. It begged some curiousity from her. To fight my thoughts- Siofra's peach gaze traced down his leg to his paw where claws prickled and sliced at the hardened ground below them. Her ears shifted backwards, her face defensively grew calmer, stiller and with a numbness like ice to her. She looked back upwards again, her body still held such that she was not asserting power over him but her face told a story of comfortableness, of calmness in the face of his threat. -suppose a fight with you would serve me the same; keep the thoughts at bay. If she had to chose there it was for him to engage with further as he saw fit- begin the dance of claw and tooth or press on what exactly she was fleeing from out here. Siofra watched his face for either-

skarde merely looks her up and down, and then rolls his eyes. he trots over to a bone lying on the ground - a rib bone perhaps - and bats it away with his paw. his body is broken; beaten down from fighting, from trying to get his way every chance he could. turning around, he gives the stranger a flat, frustrated expression. with one large shove he kicks the bone in her direction. have at it, then. there's no interest in hurting this girl, not when she's so young as it is. he should. skarde would never touch a child. that's not of his nature, and nature must stay consistent. why are you here, anyway? he asks, still looking surprised. a child like you? come all the way out here? where are your parents?
