Alma walked through the fields with something in mind. She was hungry and she hoped to perhaps hunt something for herself. But what? Anything small enough for her to kill alone, but she had yet to see what was available to take down today. The evening was warm but the growing dark clouds darkened the place, and that could be an advantage to use for Alma. Darker meant it could be easier to hide in the shadows. And with that in mind she started to evaluate the place, wanting to find anything she could hunt down. Her partial mane moved along the wind, as she walked against it to hide her scent. It was time to feed.

The golden playboy found himself lurking in the fields near the watering hole once more. Ever since meeting @Calamity he had been staying in the general area hoping to catch a glimpse of the lilac beast. On this evening as the sky darkened it wasn’t his darling that drew his purple eyes it was @Alma. She was pretty enough a bit plan looking, but it isn’t her coat that drew him in but her actions. Moving closer it was clear she was hunting and that was when he decided he could go for some grub. Moving closer staying so his scent wouldn’t travel in the wind he moved to stand near the lioness. “Newt.” He whispered to her before taking a position in some tall grass to hide as he waited for her to lead this hunt.

He loved these fields in the evening, the vast straits of emptiness where any daring lion stood out like the moon among the stars. Mundane prey also roamed. Vermier loped with nice, long strides, panting as he ignored the strain of anxious muscles and the binding of his chest. He followed his nose, drooling at the smell of rogue lion and the prey they sought. A rogue female, just beyond the cusp of maidenhood, drew his most immediate attention and he eyed her with a charming crinkle of his whiskers as he approached. His smile wavered as he noticed the other male. Large, older, pah! not worth the effort for a female who had the audacity to wear a mane in public. He subdued his smile. It still didn't touch his eyes. "Bonjour," he murmured vaguely, looking between the two of them, but - to not attract attention - he didn't stop, just curving his trail around them and continuing on. Any scent of prey would enter readily into his gasping lungs.

Now that it was evening, she could finally do more than rest in one place and bemoan her thick-coated fortunes. The tattered beast padded through the fields, her head down and her nose spattered with dust and her whiskers tangled with dead little grass seeds. She was not a tidy tracker, but she was dedicated. She hadn't found any tracks in the dry grasses - at least nothing recent - but even though hoofprints hadn't left any impressions deep enough for her to pick up, something had been through here recently enough that its scent lingered. She moved haltingly, scurrying quickly to a bramble where a chunk of fur had been caught. So she was on the right track. She inhaled deeply and continued on, her tail wagging doglike.

There were other lions. She knew that. But it was more important to track track track. Only by chance did they happen to be standing in the path of her tracking. She grunted at them, annoyed. But she heard one say something about a newt. A newt was a food, right? "What's a newt smell like?" she grumbled. She hadn't thought she was tracking a newt and she didn't like being wrong. "And can we kill it?" Well that was after all the important thing. The pursuit of food.

He won. Of course he did. There were others... but were all of them needed to catch one impala? Nope. This was his effort and as he looked down panting at the dead carcass he decided his contribution of wounds was clearly the best. Naturally he would be magnanimous. Well. Not naturally. But it pleased his whim to grant the others to eat as well; he would not chase them off. He shouldered himself over the choice portion of prey, his tail waving testily. And he would eat his fill. Not as much as he was able because he needed to continue his exercise. He would not be caught unaware by Hollow scum. But he definitely enjoyed it, growling contentedly at warm muscle slipping down his throat. It was not as good as the best game. But it was a nice treat. He would eat and then he would be off. The others had not distinguished themselves as worth his time.

Food was spotted. All other questions were irrelevant. Her black ears pitched forward, tips yawing like banners whipped to their fully frenzy. And she was off, crooked tail whipping behind her, her awkward walking gait no less awkward but now deadly and bull-flavored. Jaws, gaping, received scent, imparted wounds. One claw hooked its haunch and she abandoned all other efforts except to attach her weight to that one paw, collapsing her body and letting herself be dragged rather than release one single millimeter of one sharp dagger. It was downed and she cared nothing for the condition of the victory. FOOD! She warily bent her ears, ceding to one possessive male, sniping and eating around him like a thieving cub. Better once he was gone and she could shovel food into her food hole unhindered. Eventually she waddled off for a nap.
