Summer
With the last of the rainfall seeming to have swept across the peninsula, summer days await! The days are warm, though comfortable, and peeter off into more mild evenings while the humidity remains low. It is the perfect inbetween until things transition towards more sweltering temperatures, so best enjoy it while it is here.

he dreams of sunlit tree bark and warm silver-brown eyes. he dreams of brown, plush fur and paws far smaller than his own. colorful scenes and snippets of a soft voice. he dreams of —
— well, he dreams.
he dreams, and in his dreams he finds surety. devotee to vellen that he is, the bear finds comfort and purpose in these repeating dreams, convinced that they are a vision of his soulmate. convinced, as only a true believer could be, that he is meant to find and love that which visits him each night.
his instinct, with most, is to keep these dreams to himself - they are no one else's business - but when it comes to his mother, the bear-priest has no secrets. when the dreams first came, it was she to whom he turned, she who whispered it was vellen's guidance. it must be, for what other explanation could there be?
as the years passed, the bear-priest found himself actively reaching for this dream of his, this lovely other world in which he had found companionship. he has never known, for the dream does not reveal, what gender his companion might be - but, being pansexual, the bear-priest has never cared except that it might help him find them sooner.
daily, he engages in a ritual of thanks to vellen - for his life, and the life of his clan, and for the gift of the dreams. he offers up a fresh kill to the sea, and opens himself to vellen's will; sometimes, he gets 'feelings' which direct him to open his mind to a vision. he does this by using the same poultice which is given to those yearlings who survive their second drowning.
some visions he receives doing this are clearer than others; some, it takes him many weeks to interpret. still others, he only realizes the meaning of as the event they warned of is occurring - but the bear-priest does his best to interpret each and every vision he is given with the greatest amount of accuracy that he can.
his devotion to vellen is nearly equaled by that of his devotion to his mother; it was she who brought him into the world with vellen's blessing, and as such it is the bear-priest's duty to honor and protect her. as she is his jarl, it is also his duty to follow and obey her - although, ever the devoted son, he would obey her even if she were ranked last among the clan.
colossal in size, the bear is named aptly; 'sea bear' is, after all, another name for polar bears, whose appearance the bear-priest has borrowed from. his size, too, it might seem, comes from them - he is massive, with a stout, strong frame and enormous, cushioned paws. these paws bear extra toes on each as well, giving him more traction on ice and snow - and more claws with which to fight.
one might assume the bear-priest fights often, given his build and overall frightening appearance, but the stout man is more concerned with observing his religion than with fighting his clanmates. of course, disrespect or threat to his mother, or disrespect to vellen, will be met with the man's fangs and claws fully extended. he tolerates none of these things - but is, otherwise, usually very easygoing and approachable... for a bear.
he is a quiet man, prone to introspection and meditation; he does spar, just to keep up his skills, and he is an excellent fisher and swimmer. the ocean is his favorite place, and calls to him often - if one is uncertain where to find the bear-priest, the coast is almost always your best bet. he enjoys pitting himself against the waves, especially during storms; this is the bear-priest's way of being closer to vellen.
it is also his way of strength training; fighting the waves of the ocean does, after all, require quite a lot of power. the bear-priest has drowned more than the two ritual times in his short life because of this habit, but he always comes back - and the drownings do not deter him from this dangerous behavior. if anything, the fact that he always comes back encourages it.

* named for his father, secondborn. very similar in appearance but has some of his mom's chimera genes
* was always the quieter son but after losing fannar, he's grown bolder and fiercer. went to try to avenge his brother when he was slain: was he successful? up to u!! that's where he got his scars and where he got separated from saga and ragna
* his mother is protective of him, moreso than her daughter, often clinging to him as the doppelganger of her lost husband and it sometimes weirds him out bc he never met his dad (died before he was born) and feels like she doesn't always see him but his dad instead
* probably really close to ragna, esp now that fannar is dead
* maybe a litter sullen and bitter and mad at the world rn bc he and fannar were absolutely inseparable, thick as thieves
* used to be a smiling, easygoing boy, fun loving and mischievous - whether that changed is up to you!!
* probably a good son, loving and loyal and vellen fearing bc his mother would've drowned him if he wasn't
