random event request for @Aurum and @Morrigan

Nafasi had done a good job keeping to herself lately -- in fact, she had been so incredibly well-behaved that life was starting to get a little bit drab and boring! which, of course, certainly would not suffice for much longer. and while the rambunctious spirit heeded maua's teachings with care and sweet adoration, surely the deity would not want nafasi to go against their instincts and the joy that their antics brought to the rest of the island. besides, it was all in good fun, wasn't it?

skipping along the breadth of the desert, the sprite continues forth, poking her nose at each curious thing that she passed by, until she finds herself on the edge of the cactus farm. and voila, her newest, and perhaps greatest idea so far, was born! instinctively do the girl's lips curl upwards into a coy sort of smirk, glancing around for any nearby lions, before she raised a paw and stomped it purposefully back into the earth, rattling the sands with a small burst of power. and just like that, a mirage was born. where there once had been rows of prickly cacti now stood (what appeared to be) bushes of plump and juicy fruit, ripe for the taking. the faux meal pulled a quick giggle from nafasi's chest as she looks across it, feeling content with the outcome of her prank, before the sprite would zip back across the horizon, disappearing from view.

On her way to visit the commotion at the Bluffs, Morrigan had noted what looked to be a coastal sort of desert beyond to her left. Why she had decided to sate this particular curiosity on one of the first days of summer was beyond her and she blamed it on her restlessness at being recovered with nothing to do.

Still, the sun was hot on her thick coat and ebony coloring, so when she crossed over a particularly high dune to find what appeared to be a very randomly placed oasis of plump and juicy fruit that would have been sure to sate her thirst and let her rest a bit before continuing on perhaps after sunset.

She approached the the haphazard rows without caution, the foreigner having no idea of what should have appeared before her. It was only when she started to reach into one of the bushes to pull off one of the strange fruits that she became aware of the soft sound of approach.

All that glitters is not gold

*chugs along*

He wasn't the most familiar with the desert, but had visited a few times in his nearly three years now(Wasn't that a bit jarring?) and so knew approximately where things should be. Had he been born to another family, one who had not remained in the forest for generations he may have been drawn to it. Have been sent to it because his pelt, his coloring, fit beautifully within the sea of sand. Glimmering golden boy, shimmering like a mirage, and why was the mirage panting? Since he is not overly familiar with the area he underestimated the strength of the early summer sun here. In the brook it was a bit on the warm side for his taste, but, not suffocating like this. So when he tops a dune, around the curving crest of the same dune that @Morrigan clambered down, he is pleasantly surprised by the fruit.

However, something... seems a bit off. He didn't think fruiting bushes grew out in the sand and heat, and wasn't the cactus farm somewhere nearby? He shakes his head, confused, unsure if he was remembering correctly. Below, the movement of Morrigan finally catches his eye and he idles towards her. Letting her take the plunge on his behalf because she was new. And to say he is a little bitter about his home being invaded was a little bit of an understatement. So he is curious, cautious, making his way towards the bounty and the dark woman with care. Not speaking a warning because he isn't entirely sure himself. @Nafasi you clever, mischievous thing.

It was not long before her excitement over finding this oasis turned to confusion. Just a she thought she was reaching for a juicy fruit, the unmistakable needle sharp point of a cactus drove itself into her paw. "Oh, shit!," she exclaimed and she stumbled backward, shaking the hurting paw until she thought to look at it and saw there was indeed the needle of a cactus poking out. She gingerly removed it with her teeth before taking a few more steps back to take another good look at what she thought was rows of salvation.

It was only then that she noticed the golden coated man nearby. She knew she'd seen him around before and she even thought it might have been kin to Talisa. If nothing else she was fairly certain he was a native at least and so she called out to @Aurum, "Any particular reason this fruit has cactus needles?" Maybe he had more insight on whatever was going on here than she did because she knew very well her own eyes had been watching her paw reach. No cactuses in sight unless she was losing her mind.

This seemed ever so slightly off and the young man pauses as the woman exclaims. Peering at her as she stumbles backward, paw raised. Pulling a cactus spine from that pad, she turns to look at him and ask him what he thought was up. The golden man considers her and the area thoughtfully. "I am not sure." He admits, padding carefully towards her. He stops at a healthy, but still comfortable distance at which to talk at, peering suspiciously at the fruit. "I could have sworn... But I don't know this part of the land well so maybe I misremembered things." He puzzles. He knew cactus were around here but the fruit said otherwise but there had been a spine in @Morrigan 's paw. What in Maua's name was going on?

She shook the stinging paw again as @Aurum spoke, her mismatched gaze still locked on studying the offending fruit. It did seem to have a sort of sheen to it almost, something not quite right. She wasn't willing to sacrifice her other paw pads to test it out again, so she just made a sound of confusion in her throat before sitting down to stare some more. "Maybe best not to linger then, if it's someone... other than Maua."

She thought Talisa had mentioned others before, but she'd been too caught up in the beautiful native herself and then the gifts that Maua had bestowed to pay much mind to anyone else. Still, there was something about the way the air felt that reminded Morrigan of the divine Creator's own presence and since Aurum was Talisa's littermate she had little doubt he'd know what it could be anyway.

Still, it made her nervous in a way that no sort of physical threat ever could, and after a few more heartbeats beneath the hot sun, Morrigan stood up ad began to turn away. "Perhaps we shouldn't linger." She'd apologize to the golden man later if he didn't wish to follow, but the barbarian wasn't all-knowing in these matters she imagined gods could take things away just as easily as they gave them. exit morrigan
