The night was chilled as ever, even if the rest of Amaryllis was unthawing bit by bit from winter the tundra did not give up so easily or wholly as the rest of the lands.

That was fine, she could sit awhile longer in her thickly padded fur, the silvery curtain of mane that hung down from her face being tousled at by the wind.

Above, the moon shone down like a wide and slanted grin. Bright enough to scatter itself across the surface of the lake like a thousand pearls. They were larger than the star's own mirrored pinpricks, but the countless light had their own subtle beauty. They told tales, showed patterns that others might not have known to look for.

Ever since she was a cub, Mairwen had been taught that there was something mystical and sacred about the nightly celestial bodies. They held power and wisdom if you knew how to read them, were shining gems that did not need guardian dragons to hoard and treasure them. Although, she wouldn't have minded plucking a few for herself. She could only imagine how brightly they would shine up close.

The other pale sister was among the stars as well, walking on her own as observant blue eyes caught sight of the opaline dame not far away from her. She greatly considered turning and walking the other way, was she really in the mood tonight?

But... Uhg. There was no sense in keeping a chip on her shoulder over their spat earlier. It was not the first they'd ever had, and it surely wouldn't be their last. Not to mention, she was the one who left puncture wounds on Mairwen's behind. Using claws and teeth on a spar... Was dishonorable. And it was something that their mother had drilled into them- especially (and possibly only) when it came to each other. Their pelts were to be pristine, shining like the dragon scales of their ancestors, yadda yadda yadda...

She let out a quiet sigh and calmly padded to her sister's side. At a safe distance, but to her side nonetheless. Her eyes pointed up toward the night sky with wonder, taking in the amazing sight of the void above them, littered by stars and streams of moonlight.

"It's a clear night tonight... Perfect for spotting constellations, no?" She mewed gently, yet with the smallest hint of playful suggestion.

The pale rose ghost in her periphery came closer and closer, she could smell Eirwen's scent before her sister spoke but still kept her eyes on the stars.

Funnily enough it was she who had already forgotten their spat almost entirely, only being reminded when she saw the healing bite on her rump. Right now the opal Llywellyn was adrift in starlight.

"It is," She agreed, brow furrowing slightly as her pale eyes flicked over familiar clusters of light. "The Egg has finally come out, now that spring is here." She tilted her nose up in the direction of the constellation, one that perhaps only their family would have known to call by that name. A series of six stars creating a loose oval up above, if one knew where to look.

With the change of seasons and the sky it would eventually become The Hatchling, then once more The Egg. It was a neverending rebirth that the dragons below had bore witness to for generations.

"Next moon is our birthday, three years already." And nothing to show for it. It filled the opal dragoness with a bitter anxiety, there was still time, they were still young. But for how long?

She was relieved that the tension had passed, more than happy to leave it behind them without further discussion. Her eyes instead followed her sister's to the cluster of stars known as The Egg, a telltale sign of mid-spring. And just as she said... Their birthday.

"Uhg... Don't remind me." She said with a sigh, not really wanting to reflect on that fact. Three years already? And how come it felt like she'd accomplished absolutely nothing.

Padding up to her sister close enough to brush pelts with her, she unceremoniously flopped down at her side, even shoving her slightly as she did so. She shot her a wry little smile as she made herself comfortable before continuing.

"You worried you won't get knocked up before your fourth year? You're on the right path to." She laughed, although she knew the response she may get. It wasn't much of a secret that Eirwen treated the subject of her sisters' mutual fretting kind of a joke. Though it was a very serious matter, to everyone else. She'd not let it be so easily known, but her unfulfillment didn't come from... That.

"There's plenty of time." Eirwen murmured, looking back up at the sky again to trace the constellations. Taking note of the ones she could see, and widening her eyes when she thought she may have caught the sight of a falling star.

Mairwen huffed mirthlessly at Eirwen's groan of despair, absorbing the shoulder check with only a warning glare that they both knew would go nowhere. They were both fixated on the sky, their surroundings only making it seem bigger. Like it touched both heaven and earth with help from the lake.

"I..." There was a note of hesitance in the dragoness's tone, somewhere behind her eyes there were memories of her escapades in the last year swarming around. "I don't know if I can."

How many attempts had she made to get herself pregnant since her ceremony? Even during her heat when she had even chosen some, well, less than desirable partners all for the sake of ensuring that she would have further chance at conceiving. It had been for nothing, just like so many of the Llywellyn before her who lived and died without a single offspring to their name.

She caught sight of the falling star just as Eirwen did, just a streak of silver against the night sky. There and gone so quickly that it may have been a trick of the eye. But another followed, making her breathe seize in her throat. A meteor shower?

They didn't come all at once, but every now and then there would be a silk thread of light before it faded to darkness.

"There have to be dragons in Amaryllis." Mairwen kept her eyes to the sky, brow furrowing slightly as her eyes still in determination. "We cannot be the last, the hoard needs to be expanded and protected. I...we. We cannot fail." The opal dragoness dug her claws into the shoreline turf below her, letting her tail lash sharply. "We can't let the Lair go silent."
